"Well, that should be interesting to see how that plays out, but I intent to turn this iron into steel and make new armor for soldiers, Claria the military adviser told me that our old bronze armor could easily be punctured by a stab from a steel sword, so its up to me to fix that issue"

"But... Why useless armour? Why focus on millitary now when you could do so much to the infrastrucure? How about a giant steel bridge connecting the two banks of your river? A railway conecting your entire nation? Central heating for your homes? Electric Lighting on the streets! Why waste the time on useless armor? If you want armour, you could just buy it from our museum storage, armour that couldnt be pierced by a 2m longsword, but again, useless against bullets. Science must not be used for war only, it is sede to bring the future to the masses."

@@Skullbuster, "How do you know that they'ed be the best if they haven't used the weapons before? I don't doubt that they're not good soldiers, especially since," He gestures with a hoof at the decor, "you can easilly fund for the weapons you currently wield along with their training. But what are they armed and protected with?"

 

The Kaiser sat atop the Nightingale, soaking in the sun's rays while a few guards tossed a ball back and forth. Such a simple excercise was made rather difficult to the inexperienced with the ball being cast away by the strong upward winds. It would only be a few hours till the southern sea came into view and they would leave the airship to meet with this Cidonian Queen.

 

@@Derplight Sperkle, On the border of the great forest, three mines were shutdown by ponies revolting. Several ponies hung from trees, along with a few discovered changelings. Fires had been set and tools had been turned into makeshift weapons along with the few captured. Explosives meant for the mines were brought up and traps were set around the area.

The queen motioned and a soldier approached in full armor, including a pole shield, which was attacked to his left harness, and a spear jutting from his right, on his chest armor, strapped on were a small knife and a boarding axe, which were in reach of his mouth, currently he held a cidonian sword in his mouth, while everyone was focusing on the soilder, Salazaria took a quick swig of wine straight from the bottle and put it down "You see, in addition to all of this, they are masters of hoof to hoof combat, and are used to killing large beasts, soldier, how many manticores have you killed?" almost immediately as if he enjoys answering "5" the queen smirked "Their armor and weapons may not be the most advanced, but they make up for in fighting ability"

Every ten years or whenever one is sited, we surround the dragon, making a wide perimeter of a few miles soit can move about fairly but not get away, and let thousands of troops with go in with whatever they want to slay it with, from full plated armor, to nothing but a knife. I shake my head at the latter. But we let them figure out how to kill it on their own. Everything is well documented, and all who stay the whole time are promoted, while those who flee are demoted. We always look for the few who show great valor, such as those who risk their lives to save others, and those who deliver the final blow. One comes to mind in particular. He delivered the final blow on the last two hunts. It's rare to go on more than one, but to be responsible for the actual death of the dragon twice. Now that's something." He takes out a flask and drinks from it. The captain speaks up. "That soldier who killed those two dragons was the friend of mine I was talking about. They're thinking of giving him his own sect in the military for special operations." Helm spoke back up. "Yes, our dear Lauf Feuer. He'd probably replace me someday if it weren't for the fact that he wasn't able to stand over a map all day. Plus his technique is so different from the rest of our military. He doesn't care about the cost of a ship or something other, and if you can't stay alive around him you're not worth serving by him either. All he does is specially train soldiers for extreme circumstances. We've become more accepting of some of his practices, but only volunteers go with him for the full experience. Half of them don't come back from it, and half of those who do have to be hospitalized. I'm curious though. Our armor is easily crushed by the immense weight of a dragon and tooth and claw tear it open like it's paper. What is your armor made of?"

"Very interesting, Trainees before they become soldiers are abandoned in the middle of the desert for a week and told to survive, we have rigorus training, and to become commander, A captain must kill 3 manticores by himself, I wish I could see a dragon they sound big, my soldiers have kept themselves occupied by killing large beasts in the west, your friend sounds like an interesting character, My military adviser and him would be good friends"

@@Skullbuster, Helm and Schnell looked at each other unsure. Schnell spoke up."Friends might be stretching it a lot. He really only associates himself with his soldiers, those he knew before his accident, and our veterans. If you have something he thinks is worth learning or trying out then maybe." "He'd probably get a real kick out of killing manticores though." Helm said before they both laughed. "Our soldiers go through training and recieve scores for their perfomances. If they meet our standard then they officially become soldiers. From their on, they may take further training, which most do, especially now. We're thinking of making it a requirement. Have to make sure that they're all the best out of the best. Anyways, they get promoted for completing further training, and then usually choose which sect of the military they'll go into. From there, they recieve training for that sect, Which has an advanced training beyond that till they are masters in their field. Then there is our central advanced training which you go into if you don't want to choose a sect, and after that you are taught a little bit of every sect, and we'll select which one you go into based on your performance. Then there's officers training where you're taught more to give orders than recieve them, and learn how things operate from command and most go into that one after having gained some merit in their sect. Finally there is Lauf's training, for the more active types and as I said before, the soldiers who come out of that are limited. You didn't answer my question about armor though. And trust me, dragons get very big. That perimeter is a few miles for a good reason. If you don't give them enough space they'll charge right through and cause utter destruction. Maybe if you come by at the right time you can watch. It's all anypony talks about when it comes up. We have something similar for survival. We include it as part of basic. They get dropped off blindfolded in a random area, and they have to find their way to a checkpoint within three days. We then do it again during the middle of winter."

@@Skullbuster, "Bronze? Interesting choice. It's very useful for how maluable it is, which we take advantage of for certain instruments and a few other things. Not to be offensive or anything, but it's no wonder why you lost to these Ponssians. You might as well be wearing what I am right now. If I gave you one of our swords and we dualed, we'd be even if we are equally skilled in the art. To weapons of such high velocity, your armor can't properly act as a protective barrier. Even if they were made of steel, alone they wouldn't help you. Or could they,,," He paused and wrote something down with his eyes furrowed. "Hmmm," he looked back up. "Ah yes, the map. This is a map of what we currently know of. It's rather outdated. Everything in the south just outside of the Raging River's mouth was mapped centuries ago. It's not to far off, but it doesn't include the changes since then, and we only knew that there were pegasi where Pegasonia is. We only knew a small part of its north, and we didn't know of anything farther east than the Raging River's west bank. We knew of the southern half of the Griffon Kingdoms, and all of Equestria, plus just the smallest part of a nation north of it. Only recently have we added the Crystal Empire, now that it's returned, and now we have to add so much more. We knew basically where other civilizatiions were because we witnessed their activity over several years on patrols, or knew where their trade ships were headed from our time trading as well with Equestria. Within a month, this will only be used in history books, and for local directions." He thought for another moment, writing something else down. "Being formidable is our speciality. I'd say the best but frankly I wouldn't know if that were true or not. Can't determine anything without testing at least once, and frankly unless the opponent is willing to give up his life, we wouldn't dare try so. We train our soldiers how to win wars, not fight them. Send somepony up against one of ours and I guarantee that one of them is coming out dead, because a Soldier of Abendstern either kills or be killed. There is no grey area. One warning, then BLAM!" He slammed a hoof onto the table, then took a drink. He gave an inward chuckle over his brashness before taking a more proffesional stance. "We could send some of our higher officers along with Lauf to advise. He'd probably want to demonstrate to some of your soldiers out in the field. (Hint Hint.) While we're at it, we could solve that armor issue for you while we setup our base, after the Kaiser's approval of course. I'm suddenly determined to figure out how to stop a bullet." He said smiling. (Damn, I right long posts.)

Salazaria put her glass down "Its not true, Im flawless...but Ill have you know the only reason we lost that battle because their warhips had huge...cannons! and they wanted blow up my capital city, our balistas couldnt reach them, but their airships were no match!"

Helm shrugged his shoulders, and raised his flask up to the servant while smiling, as though saying live and let live before taking another drink from it. "None the less, an earth pony has no business being up in our sky. If they were meant to fly with us, they would have been born with wings. As long as they remain airborne, they are a threat to our kind. Those born of the earth should be bound to it. Whether or not they should look up to us, or us down on them I'll leave for you to decide."

Meanwhile somewhere else in Abendstern's capital, a scientist was at work testing to see what would happen when you heated ammonium nitrate. It produced a sweet smell and so he leaned in and took a whiff, knowing that the chemicals he was using in the amount he was using. Something odd began to happen. He couldn't quite determine what was taking place, but he suddenly had the urge to laugh. He chuckled to himself, 'What's so funny?' he thought. The urge didn't go away. As he inhaled more, so did the urge. It came to a point where he couldn't stop laughing for what seemed like no apparent reason. He laughed uncontrollably until his experiment began to bubble dangerously and it exploded inside the glass beaker, sending small shards of glass everywhere. He fell to the ground in surprise. A guard rushed in to see if he was alright. He merely looked at him, and gave a small laugh.

"ungrateful bare backs they form the back bone of my kingdoms agriculture and they complain...I put them in the palace and they still complain..." The assistant looked nervous "My queen maybe you should be mindful of your words" The queen waved her hoof "I dont see no bare backs or unis here!" the assistant coughed, her self being a unicorn "Well..y-your cool" The assistant sighed and magically grabbed her glass and took it from you "You need to be at least somewhat conscious when the Kaiser arrives" The queen sighed "buzzkill..." the servant rolled her eyes "on your orders" she looks at her guests "I apologize for the glorious's queens behavior"  

 

The queen perked up "Speaking of, where is that Kaiser man...I wanna talk business with a national leader with out a metaphorical sword under my throat!"

I have, and it was terrifying, military types are all about like physically dominating and stuff, im an innovator, but i dont mess with fire if you know what i mean"

"Well to form steel clothing, plate armour there is a couple of things you should consider, Steel is very heavy, therefore mobility in it will be dratically reduced, also IT might affect the fighting of the wearer as he'd have to wear another hunndred or two kilograms on him all the time. If it were for me... you should start with something more basic for your army... like a sword,.. I seen the swords around here... theyre soft"

@@Skullbuster,  "Don't worry, the Kaiser will be here soon. But on the subject of the races, it's interesting to see Unicorns be second class. Usually they're on top in the hierarchy. As much as a hate to admit it, magic does out perform flight in a wide number of areas. We take great advantage of ours though. Rather than spend time on fighting with something like a knife,or hoof to hoof combat, we train unicorns to use their magical capabilities to terrifying efficiency. Things such as making the opponents heart skip a beat so they're immediately dead, closing of the windpipe, basic energy blast, setting fire. Quite effective. We also have one that basically reverses a spell back onto the user. Say a magical beam was cast at them, they cast the reverse spell and it blasts the one who cast it in the first place. Rather dificult toacomplish though, they need to have great reaction speed. You've only mentioned the weapons and vessels of these Ponssians. Surely if they ahd unicorns in their midst they used magic as well, yes?"

I dont like not being able to manage something on Cidonian sand"

"Unicorns are servants..and treated well, and they have a place in the military too, but every unicorn is accompanied by a handler, who helps them find a job and takes care of them...they dont know danger magic except those who are servants of priests...you know...now that you mention it, Ponissians dont seem to be able to be able to use magic...or know of its existence really"

"Well... technoically and legally that territory is no longer part of Cidonia, it is owed by Ponssia. It would be like you going to our capital and trying to change stuff there. I honestly see no way of doing that... ex cept if you get a position in the goverment, or send an ambassador... An Ambassador would be able to represent Cidonians in the goverments eyes... I cant see any alternatives really...."
