Anyone know any tricks of how to draw the ponys in proportion?

The method used to draw characters in proportion isn't limited to ponies. People usually use turnarounds or model sheets as their reference, which are drawings of the character's regular idle pose from each angle. They keep the characters in proportion by making sure the character is the same number of heads tall.

For ponies, you can look up screenshots and break down the character into simple geometric shapes as well as get the head count. You can also look up fan-made turnarounds for reference.

One thing I recently found out is that, in the show's style, ponies are three heads tall. The head will obviously be one head tall, the neck and torso combined should be as tall as one head, and the legs will also be one head tall. I find it helps if you sketch out a psuedo-ruler off to the side to help make sure everything is as tall as it needs to be until you don't need it anymore.

Hope this helps! :)
