aoEAF2FBvC0MIo2Q 3,673 May 24, 2015 Share May 24, 2015 A broad topic to be sure. We've seen the MLP franchise sell as toys mostly, then there's also TV, movies (if you count EqG but sorta beside the point), (coloring) books, comics... Official songs/soundtracks are also possible, audio drama/play and last but not least: video games. We're leaving out merchandise for this conversation. Well, Friendship is Magic is a hit as a TV show and I'm pretty sure the toys, comics and books are also selling. I haven't much about MLP-themed soundtracks being sold (perhaps music from the show) but who knows if it might be viable to make an album with songs about the characters, the MLP universe or whatever that come like an extra and don't appear in any episodes or movies. My Past Is Not Today comes to mind. Could official soundtracks outside of episodes and movies sell? Maybe you can say something about that. The same question could be posed with audio drama/play. Then there's possibly the most daunting one: video games. How much of an opportunity does that bring? The thing is, when you're selling entertainment and have an IP/franchise, in theory it could permeate all forms of media (speaking of which, anything I miss?).
The Awesome One 1,315 May 24, 2015 Share May 24, 2015 Hasbro should definitely try and go for a proper MLP video-game. If it is good then they'll get sales from the Bronies too so long as it isn't some mindless 2D dress-up game.
HailTrixie 239 May 25, 2015 Share May 25, 2015 (edited) A real pony video game would be incredible - as long as it was written and directed by the show's writers and they had the say in what happened, and not Hasbro. Have you heard of the pony RPG that was released? I don't know if you can still get it and it may be dead but that was awesome - you create your own ponies in a 3D Equestria and play with other people. Apparently Fluffle Puff even made an appearance there. I have no idea how to find it and idk if it's still alive, but it looked awesome. Apparently people were also making a pony fighting game but it got C&D'd by Hasbro. To answer your questions, I think it is very possible, especially considering how massive MLP has become. A video game would not surprise me (it would excite me). A play probably wouldn't happen, though... . Honestly there's not much else to be said since MLP already has merchandise of most kinds.
