help me with my OC's back story

Okay, so I'm relatively new to the whole brony fandom but yesterday i had a go at making my own OC I need a some inspiration for her backstory. she is loosely based on myslef.
this is Amora Fauna 

okay so her cutie mark is 4 purple paw prints, this is what ive got so far : Amora is an animal love first and foremost, she is a pegasis, her occupation is a vet and cares for animals of all kinds and is also equipt in pony first aid, she has a pet barn owl named Jasper. she is inspired by the mane six aswell as myself, she is like fluttershy where she has a way with animals, she is abit similar to pinky pie as she can sometimes get a little hyperactive, she is like twilight as when things are a mess she will get stressed if she cant sort it out or keep the status quo, she is like apple jack as she is not affraid to get stuck in to a good days work, she reminds me of rarity as she likes to look good and pretty this is because when she was younger she was bullied and shunned for being different (see the horns) this is why she find comfort in the animals, she has a few friends but not that much just enough to get her by but doesnt seem to keep them very long, she finds it hard to express herself and often panics in some social situations, she travels around the whole of equestria helping animals and where she can gathering research she also finds it hard to get along with other pegasi as she is more of a brains not braun kinda pony so this is why shes rarely there, so instead she (being so self consious) travels from town to town and rarely stays more then a month hoping that her veterinary services are helpful but doesnt want to get to close to anypony, this gives her a sort of mysterious feel. so if you have any tips/pointers/ideas ... shoot!

also im thinking of making a fanfic about how she is a bit wary of a relationship/ love but eventually gets there (or a happy love story in short) but seriously anyone? every little helps

Well if she's inspired by the Mane Six ponies, there doesn't seem to be anything that relates to Rainbow Dash.

 

But in all seriousness, I think Amora needs flaws, first and foremost. Sure it's great to see that she has strengths, but if she is going to have a backstory she'll experience a whole lot of trail-and-error. If you've based Amora on yourself a little, then how about this - what flaws do you have? Are they're any flaws you see in your friends?

 

Once you got that out of the way, work on your backstory. The idea of a relationship as the backstory is not bad necessarily, but it's a little sugarcoated and goody-goody if executed wrong. Instead, why not make her backstory about her love for animals? Or at the very least, make her cutie mark story about her love for animals.

 

Take two of my pony OCs/fancharacters, Paint Brush and Globetrotter, for example. Both of their backstories have an element of discovery and fascination with their future talents. Their backstories weren't tragic either, but they had to overcome challenges. So because of that, I think Amora's cutie mark story should be something like this.

 

She has lived a stable and humble life with her parents at Cloudsdale. But one thing that always fascinated her is the birds flying in the sky. To see another species that can fly was surprising, so when she started to go to her local elementary school, she has been taught more about birds and land animals. One day Amora and her parents have taken a trip down to Ponyville and check what's new. Amora wandered off much to her parent's concern, but what she found fascinating is she found a petting farm along the way. Amora got along with the animals, and the animals felt more relaxed then what they've been feeling before she appeared. Eventually her parents found her and had to take Amora away, but they too noticed how well she could handle animals. As time went on, her school had a class pet, and Amora was usually the first to handle it so that she can keep it secure from rebellious fillies. Amora also took the time to read books about them. Because of the amount of learning and interaction with them, Amora eventually got her cutie mark - three purple paw prints.

 

What do you think? You can work on that whatever you like, but this is probably the most realistic take of a cutie mark story. As for a relationship... all I can say is this.

 

Give Amora's partner personality. Make him/her loyal and nice, but also be sure to give them flaws like they're too reckless or too forgiving. Do also make it so that they've been childhood friends from the start, as making a character fall in love at first sight will make your readers annoyed. Also be sure to not sugarcoat the relationship and make it so that maintaining the relationship isn't easy, which'll cause arguments between the two.
