What makes MLP FiM a "kids show"?

Stereotypically, the target audience of a show defines it as a show targeted at kids. I think to fit into the category, it has to have themes catered towords kids, a lack of certain mature topics (or an overt attempt to explain them), and an established and reported target audience being ages that are commonly considered the ages of children.

I would say that MLP FiM was a children's show that still has children's themes, but gives enough Brony fan service (especially when suggesting adault themes in a manner which goes over children's heads) that it should be considered a very good show with what was originally a young target audience, but caters to a much broader audience than is normal, partially because it is incredibly well made.

Personally, I dont stand behind anything or identify myself by what I like, but I love MLP and I think it deserves ample respect as a well made show regardless of its target audience. Even if the opics and stories told aren't your thing, they're really well written episodes (most of the time) and the animation is well done. To be able to show this level of success without mature themes or at least with such a young target audience, I would contest that it deserves even more respect than shows that need a high level of vulgar topics to have this level of storytelling and profundity.

It' a childrens show, hence the TV Y rating, morals and it's toy based line..I really don't see why so many bronies deny it. There's nothing wrong with watching kiddie shows...

It is highly unlikely that they will do episodes about violence, rape, death, or the more "mature" things that I've heard people say they want. If you want shows that talk about those things, go watch a show that's not rated "Y".
