OC Backstory

I could really use some help coming up with a backstory for my OC Storm Song.

Well, what's Storm Song's personality like? What does her cutie mark represent? I think it would be easier to come up with a backstory from there.

I've got that much at least. She is timid at first, but when she gets to know others she becomes more out going. She is brave, but can be a bit scatterbrained. Her cutie mark is a treble clef made of lightning. She can make music using thunder storms, so i guess it's full meaning would be her ability to find beauty in unexpected places.

you could give her a fascination for gloomy atmosphere in general too... given how she must've been quite a while in storms to find her talent... or find a reason why she would spend so much time in the rain to get to the point of discovering her talent... 

 

where is she from? Cloudsdale? another mixed pony area? This could bring different situations for her, since a pony raised in a Pegasus-strictly area is more likely to have a bit of a challenge in making non-flying friends. 

 

Is she only-foal? how's her family? this again can make a good mention in a backstory.

 

Did she have any bad experiences that would explain her initial shyness around other ponies?

maybe that could add some depth to your character's back story.

Your OC probably came from some place that is often stormy, or a place where the storms often become big and boomy. This could be somewhere along the coast, or in a place with wide flat open spaces (think tornado alley). It sounds like your OC has introverted tendencies: perhaps she didn't have many friends when she was growing up, or maybe she moved halfway through childhood, loosing a lot of her old friends. I can understand how she can be brave (after all, she makes music with thunderstorms). As for her scatterbrained tendencies- I can see that being a genetic trait she got from at least one of her parents- maybe the father, while her ability to see beauty anywhere came from her mother? 

 

Ok, as I have been writing these down a story is beginning to form in my mind: Storm song's father (Sea Song) is a sailor pony for the equestrain royal navy. Storm Song's mother (Heart Song) is a local pottery pony. Storm Song was born during the middle of a hurricane. Her name was given because Heart Song heard her newborn baby's cry mixed with the thunder and found a strange beauty to it, like some sort of storm song. (Sea Song was out on active duty, working with the weather brigade to calm the hurricane as quickly as possible). Sea Song's military career has caused them to move several times, always to another coastal area.
