My drawing process

This is an explanation of my drawing process. I don't consider myself a great artist but I do like to draw from time to time. I'm posting this because it can be hard to find the process that works best for you. This is just one example, and I'm not telling you this is the way you should draw, it's just the way that works for me. A couple of these images are turned sideways, I can't seem to figure out how to prevent or predict that, but I post from my phone so that's to be expected.

First I start on graph paper to make it easier to create symmetrical shapes without having to use a ruler, and I draw in pencil so I can easily make changes. I draw the part of the basic structure then add some small details to make sure I like the proportions.

Then I finish the basic outline, using the grid on one side as a guide to make the other side symetrical.

Then I add in the rest of the details.

Next I retrace the image starting with the lighter colors,

then moving on to darker colors as they cover over the lighter colors better.

Then I color in the rest, finishing it.

Throughout the entire process I add details and make changes, which is why I prefer pencil.

This creature is what I call a Diamond Spider. It spit a venom infused with chaos magic which has random effects on its victims, its webbing has regenerative properties, and its gigantic. I came up with this creature for a Roleplay I'm in. Not only can a Roleplay be a place to use your creativity, but also a place to gain new inspirations.

The subject of this topic has little potential to spark discussion between many members and, as such, would be better suited to a status update or a blog. When creating a thread, please remember that the goal is to start a conversation with room for many people to chime in and give their own viewpoints on, and that sharing events of an anecdotal nature would be better done elsewhere.
