Spike development.

Not so much. He used to be one of the voices of reason and a helpful guy.

I wish they led him interact with more ponies, but today I've no confidence that the writers would do so. The last time they let him interact with other ponies changed in a disaster (Princess Spike).

I guess you could argue Spike is developed. I mean, we know his interests (comic books and hoofball), his talents (cooking and cleaning), and his insecurities (Worried that Twilight might not need him, the pressure of being a hero, and being seen as useless).

At the very least, he's learned not to be jealous.

Oh look, another topic complaining about Spike's lack of development.

I'll keep it real and just say my thoughts: there are numerous reasons why Spike doesn't seem to get developed. It could stem from any one of them, so take your pick:

  • Lauren Faust and Meghan McCarthy (who runs the show now more or less) are both feminists, and not the "real" kind, but the ones who are crazy and don't stand for what feminism is REALLY about. So they probably may think that empowering male characters would demean the female ones.
  • Spike isn't as popular for the toy franchise, so he gets less focus.
  • Spike was intended as a background character that happens to come into the foreground now and then and wasn't intended to be that popular.
  • The crew working on his episodes just don't like him.
  • Meghan McCarthy is a moron.

Pick your poison. Any one of those explanations would be feasible.

Never. All His Development about him being greedy( which was a primary plot point) Was thrown away in season 5 >:C He did learn that he's worth something.

You My friend, Deserve A medal.

Name your Poison, Its on me.

So, I guess him learning that he's worth something would be development.

You could say that. He's written badly and he hasn't learnt anything in reality though,

My point was worded terribly, What I mean is that he keeps learning the same lessons, and seems to always forget them and go full circle :)

So, I'm going to guess you don't like the direction the show has taken since she took over.

Do you think that if he were written better, people would say he had development, since the lessons would stay with him?

I don't mind it that much. I mean it's very "eh" but not terrible. I don't judge the show based upon the fact that Meghan McCarthy is a stupid person.

They're feminists, and don't want strong males? How much you wanna bet Big Mac's little speech in Brotherhooves Social will be forgotten about by his next appearance?

He Has Depth To a certain Degree, Like any Character in the show :) But, The Character Never really goes through any real "Changes" Or develpement like others do. Spike, Doesn't Learn from his mistakes, and is more or less the Same Dragon that we saw in earlier seasons.

Who are some more characters who need development?

It's not even that she's a feminist, it's that she says things that clearly show she doesn't TRULY understand the issues that feminism is trying to address and insists that non-issues are a thing. If you've ever followed her Twitter, it's full of stuff that shows she clearly does not understand feminism. The woman makes well over middle class and spends half of her time in Vegas and then gets on Twitter complaining that men have it so much easier than women when she has never known struggle. She is younger than I am and has a nice high paying TV producer job. That's insanely uncommon these days.

She grew up in middle class, and out of college got a high paying job. She definitely does not know what sexism is. One of her twitter posts just a while ago proves she knows nothing about sexism:

https://twitter.com/meghanwmccarthy/status/582071302946574336

Some of her replies are moronic. Such as when a man points out that women can use their appearance to get free drinks at a bar, her solution is "tell men not to buy girls free drinks". Instead of perhaps suggesting... Women shouldn't take advantage of people for free stuff? There is also little evidence to support the wage gap, not like she would know anyways, she's a TV producer that makes well over 40k a year. She tweeted just last week or so about her trip to Vegas where she was gambling.

My point is that the woman herself is an idiot, so it's feasible that her intelligence could affect her ability to write.

I see the first one I took as the main reason. And yes... McCarthy is not always the best choice as producer.
