New Fanfic author seeking advice!

Midnight Sapphire

Recommended Posts

So hello everypony, My name is Midnight mane and as the title suggests, I would like to start writing a fanfic. My only problem is I don't know where to start, I got the whole story practically playing in my head. But when I try to get it out, I just get lost in words. So if you have any advice on how I could get more organized I would greatly appreciate it.

Sometimes, I write my ideas down on paper to see if it would work, think how you want the story to go and how you are going to get there.

Hope that is helpful.

Steven Galloway, author of Cellist of Sarajevo, told me that the best way to start a story is to just write. Don't worry about grammer, spelling, diction, or anything! Just write; it's your first draft. Changes come later.

Also, every art teacher I've ever had told me that staring at a blank peice of paper is the worst thing any artist can do, and I beleive this applies to writing as well.

Yeah, my advice pretty much comes down to JUST DO IT!!

The best piece of advice at this point had already been said: just sit down and WRITE. Odds are the first draft won't be "just right" and that's totally fine!

Another potentially helpful tip is to find a writer who can walk you through the process--a mentor, if you will. Aside from proof reading and editing, along with being someone to bounce ideas off of, they can give you advice about going through the process and going from idea to published. Plenty of writers in the Writing Centre would love to help. :)

Best tip: DO IT. Don't let your dreams be dreams.

Write the 'big things' on stick-it notes. One idea per note.

"She goes to the castle" is a note.

"They come to the top of a huge cliff" is another,

And so on. Once you have the concept laid down start writing about the notes.

As was said, just ram it down it half gibberish. You can sort it out after.

PM me your story idea. I'll take a peek, since I don't want you to have to spoil the story here.
