Do Unicorns have any specific role in Equestria?

With Earth Ponies using their immense strength and inherent green hoof abilities to tend to the land and grow crops and Pegasi in charge of creating, directing and scheduling the weather in Equestria, do the Unicorns have any specific roles?

According to The Journal Of The Two Sisters, they were the ones who raised the sun and the moon before Celestia and Luna.

 

However, it ultimately weakened them, forcing Celestia and Luna to step in and take over from there (thankfully managing to restore the Unicorns' magic in the process).

I would say that, nowadays, Unicorns are the ones that create things the most, their magic gives them a decent advantage with that. Creating spells that can help others or create things. Kind of a  broad spectrum that is but that is what I think.

IMO, their horn given telekines makes fine manipulation easier for them.  Thus, they probably tend to gravitate to professions where this is important.  Clerks (writing) (includes civil service), surgeons, seamstresses (threading needles & fine stitching), jewelers, machinists, etc.

 

Plus, of course, Wizards & any other jobs requiring spell casting.
