Emerald was alone on duty that night, her sister had some leave so was at home sleeping she supposed. She always loved the appearance of Twilight's castle lovely colours she thought. Emerald had a quiet night as usal not like anything ever really happened in Ponyville and if it did, well she usually wasn't needed, but that was beside the point. 

 

Emerald was sat layed back at a chair next to the castle's doors reading a newspaper, Derpy was always nice enough to leave the daily edition for her to read as she went home herself, nice lass that Derpy a plain old night for Emerald Bolt, Commander of the guard. Like anything ever happened to her when she was on duty...

Emerald looked up from her newspaper with a confused expression on her face, "how can you even see me? it's pitch black out here I can only see because of my vampirism, meh maybe you have good night vision. To answer you question yes he's 5 doors down from my place, my place is the one with the white roof over there." Emerald pointed out a small cottage similar to most in town with a white roof. 

 

"Anyway you two stay out of trouble now and gave a good night." She then brought up the newspaper and started reading again.

Emerald again lowered her newspaper, "I guess I can, i'm not really supposed to though I'm still on duty." She looked at the logo on the box "hmm Bolt hey? Never heard of that brand before my last name is Bolt though small world hey?" Emerald got up and lifted the rear part of her armour showing her cutie mark.

"See Emerald Bolt hmm my name is not very creative." 

 

She then walked forward a bit and gestured for them to follow her.

As they walked towards the house that Lektra need to go to the conversation about the Bolt family came up, "you're not being too forward it's weird that you last name is Bolt, well I make a living as a guard silly do you think we don't get paid? But that is only partly true, I work part time you see mostly on night duty that's why i'm awake come to think about it, it's rather odd for you too until you mentioned the baker so no surprise there."

 

They got to outside the correct house. "I'm not sure how to say this to you as you seem rather keen but I'm not a Bolt well I don't believe I'm a Bolt my full name is actually Emerald Bolt Orange, i'm from the orange family well everypony knows the Orange family, but there may be a connection my mother never told me why my middle name was Bolt I never questioned it and just accepted it when I got my Cutie mark just fate I suppose. Well here's the house welcome to Ponyville hope to see you around." 

 

Emerald turned to leave...

Emerald knocked on the door that Lektra had mentioned the house was strange something she had never seen before. it was early afternoon when she was visiting a few days after they had met, Emerald wanted to visit erialer but things had gotten in the way to many promises to too many ponies and it had taken days to catch up with everypony, still she was here now knocking on her door...

They both walk into her home and sat down in the living room.

 

Emerald had a disappointed look on her face as she talked, "well I went digging rang home and asked around, my mother was very um not forthcoming about the information she said it was somthing to do about a sister she had lost when she was very young herself, the sister was named Snow Bolt but she died only a few hours after being born so she gave me Bolt for my middle name to show remembrance for her, however she knew nothing of why she was called Bolt." Emerald looked away from Lektra. "my grandparents are not with us anymore and the family records were destroyed in a fire 3 years ago most of the information we had copies for but not all of it." 

 

Emerald adjusted her seating position and looked back to her, "well there is name for you Snow Bolt, I don't know what species she was mom did not know herself just the name."

Emerald read the letter, carefully. She looked at Lektra, "maybe we are related but it's not good though my granddad was not a unicorn so, grandmare is unfaithful to him? Or somthing I don't know what to think about that actually um but well regardless I have a new cousin oh I love new family members." Emerald moved over and gave Lektra a hug.

"Sure I mean that sounds cool why not I could go for a bite to eat, still I would like to get to the bottom of the family mistry, I bet there is somepony in our family that knows the answer, oh that was weird...Cousin, oh that means you can meet everyone, there is my sister Sapphire, and two of my cousins just 1st they aren't distant like you. Anyway there is Summer and Scarlet oh and Sapphire is unicorn too." Emerald raised her hoof to her chin, "that might explain why she's a unicorn."

"weren't we just in your house? I guess we can go to mine and you can meet my sister, she's gonna be tired but you mention family to her she'll perk up quick enough just she's been on night duty for the last few days so she's never in a great mood this time of the week not her fault." Emerald led her to a cottage not too far from the castle with a white roof a lot easier to see at during the day than when she pointed it out that first night. 

 

"so this is my and my sisters house but my cousins may visit so who knows we a bit of a B&B for my family, I well I mean our family now."

Emerald opened the door and led her in closing it behind her, she looked for her sister. Then shouted "Sapphire where are you?"

"Kitchen."

"Can you come in here?"

Sapphire comes through to the living room, "yes...who is this?" She looks at Lektra.

"This is Lektra I told you last night?"

"I don't remember last night."

Emerald sighed, "I'll give you the short version I'm not saying it all again, she's a Bolt and we are damn sure that we are related she is a cousin of ours."

Sapphire's eyes went wide. "Bolt! Cousin! Did not see that coming cool, though." it was obvious she knew something. "Well more family is awesome." She walked over and hugged Lektra, "Well welcome to the Orange family lass, there are a lot of us, from all walks of life but most of us are farmers so expect that." She walked back and sat on the couch.

"so I was cooking dinner so do you want to come eat? I'm cooking pasta Em..." She said the last part in an enticing way.

 

"Fire." She looked to Lektra. "I call my sister Fire, she can be like that sometimes." She looked back to Sapphire. "You had me a food, but now well you know me and pasta."

 

"I know my whole family when it comes to pasta, me included." Sapphire gets up and walks towards the kitchen. "How are you with pasta Lektra? If you drool at the mention of it you really are an Orange."

 

Emerald got up and followed her in. "Come on Cuz."

"I don't know our family is pretty big, probably bigger than yours I mean we rival the Apples in size and have what six farms Em?"

 

"seven, there's Scarlet and Summer's you keep forgetting that one."

 

"Yeah I do, but I have not heard of Bolt Solutions, we are well just some lowly guards here in Ponyville we don't really get out too much and when we do it's for work."

 

"Aye my sister is correct we don't get out much." 

 

Sapphire started plating up three bowls worth of spaghetti and put them out. "I've wanted anther unicorn in the family finally someone I can talk to about magic proper who's related to me too." Sapphire smiled and sat down, as too did Emerald.

 

"There are more of us in town family that is, if you were wondering. The cloud house somewhat above us is Summer's home she's our cousin so she'd be a second cousin to you Lektra. There is also Scarlet who's Summer's older sister she will be back in town tommorrow she is always on business for the family, sells the oranges you see but in massive orders and for long periods of time like a few months to a well a few years." 

 

"She's a bit hard so to speak though but a damn good cook." Sapphire started to eat.

"Well yeah of course I did I am a good cook, like everyone in our family but Scarlet oh my sweet Celestia she can cook."

 

"Yeah she can really put us all to shame with what she can do in the kitchen."

 

"I am glad you like it Lektra, Em dose not give me that much praise for my cooking."

 

"Hey! That is not true, you don't say much about mine!?"

 

"Because you can't cook as well as me."

 

Emerald got red faced with some anger. "I hate it when you are right." She went back to eating her pasta meal.

 

"Sorry Em, your cooking is fine." She also had some more of her own food

 

Emerald looked to Lektra. "Anyway Summer may turn up or she may not she's a happy young thing, Scarlett may be in town in a few days who knows."

"What in the devil was that?"

 

"Only pony around here that can do that is Rainbow."

 

They both got up after that Emerald picking up on Lektra's comment "Wait do you know who that is?" The pair of them walked out side with Lektra following her out their front door, then looking around. Like a few others who heard this rather ear thudding sound.

"Well then that is something then."

 

"I did not know you had siblings." 

 

"Did we say?"

 

"Well no..."

 

"Shush Fire." The pair stopped their bickering and looked on at these two new fillies, hugging the life out of Lektra. "I remember when we where like that with mom dad."

 

"Yeah miss being young."

Indeed the pair where bowled over by the little ones. "Well hello to you too there, not had a little one cuddle me like this since the last family thing last year..."

 

"Bugger me where did this strength come from you don't look like you had the power to knock me over."

"Um I don't know I mean there your siblings." 

 

"Wait why is there such a age gap between the three of you?"

 

"Sis has a point, but on the question I suppose they can stay with us." Looking at the pair. "But you'll have to share a room or stay at Lektra's."

 

"Of course we are family up to you guys."
