"So no one in the whole entire stable was discernible? There's got to be somepony who caught your eyes."

Foray frowned slightly. "It's not like I was looking for a special somepony; I was busy enough caring for three siblings... anypony else would just slow me down." Shifting her position slightly, she added, "But you're right, nopony really stood out. I didn't have a lot of free time to roam around the stable, so I didn't get to meet a lot of ponies. There were a few Stable-Tec security guards who would roam around the halls at night, and sometimes we'd have a chat, but nothing like you're describing."

 

Eyeing him quizzically, she asked, "Why do you ask?"

Quiet shrugged

 

"I don't know, just trying to get to know you and all."Storm said, averting his eyes to the rain pouring outside. He watched intently as a single drop of water landed on the tent.

 

"I mean if you want to ask question that's fine too." He said turning his head back to Foray

Foray frowned in thought, not able to come up with a good question before the silence became awkwardly long. "Uhh..." she mumbled, still thinking. "How'd you avoid getting your tongue cut out? Slavers -- at least the ones around here, I'm not sure about the ones where you're from -- usually cut out the tongues of slaves." She shrugged, adding, "Just curious."

"It helps when none of the raiders actually give a shit about you. I always stayed under the radar, not getting a reputation in a slave camp is a great way to survive in one. Also I never really talked much, some of the slavers probably thought I was mute.  Quiet laid down on his back

"Later than I'm usually awake, but I like the night, especially when it's raining," Foray mumbled, shifting her position uncomfortably. "Although I really could've picked a better spot to put this tent, there's rocks on the ground where I'm at..."

 

Shifting again, she added, "I guess playing mute seems to work for a lot of ponies. That's how I got out of Troop 92 camp with my tongue intact. I knew a pony who's actually mute, and I just copied her mannerisms. Worked pretty well, earth ponies never see that coming." Looking slightly shocked after she realized that he was one, she added, "Uhh, no offense, of course."

"No offence taken what so ever. I mean most earth ponies don't see the shit unicorns have coming for them." Quiet said staring at Foray

 

"MOST of us does not mean ALL. Just think you should remember that anytime you're in battle with a earth pony." He said simply.

"I'll remember," Foray replied, still squirming uncontrollably. It was evident that she didn't like the portion of ground she was laying on. After a brief moment of silence, she added, "How's your leg holding up? I kinda tore you up while probing for the bullet..."

"This is nothing I'm fine, I've had more severe pains than this, I walked on them too. You shouldn't worry about me some much." He pointed toward Foray's injured leg.

 

"You should worry about yourself. Your injuries are worse." Quiet reminded her bluntly

 

"Go to sleep I'll keep lookout till morning."

"No, you need to get some sleep," Foray retorted, her motherly voice toning in involuntarily. "I'd much rather you be awake and alert during the day than try and tough it up staying up all night. No matter how tough you think you are, you won't be your best tomorrow if you don't get some sleep tonight."

 

Sighing softly and turning to face her wounded leg, she sat up and adjusted the bandage. "It's still bleeding -- yeesh... was shooting me really all that necessary?" she asked, though the second part of her sentence was delivered in a teasing tone.

 The tone Foray was using went completely over the head of Quiet.

 

"um....I don't really wanna talk about it." He said, shifting nervously thinking that the mare actually wanted a answer.

 

"Also since you seem so intent on me getting rest, I'll sleep......just this one time." He wasn't planning on sleeping though, only to look asleep while checking the outside area for any ponies lurking.

"Alright then... let's shut up and get some rest, hmm?" Foray asked, laying back down and shifting into a more comfortable position. Taking note of how close she was to Quiet, she looked up at him apologetically and asked, "You ah... you probably think that I... ah..." she fumbled. "Y-you don't mind that we're... practically hugging, do you?"

Quiet scratched at his hair.

 

"I already told you, if there's not much you can do about something, then there is no use in complaining about it. I can deal with it." Quiet said uninterestedly

"M'kay, good... I was just, ah... asking. Because I didn't want you to think this was awkward or anything." Letting out a gentle sigh, she stared up at the tent "roof" and added, "We'd better turn in." Turning away from him, she settled in and said a muffled, "G'night," before going quiet.

"Yeah, sure good night Foray."  Quiet slowly and silently got up from his cramped position in the tent, making his way outside and grabbing his bow and arrow, waiting patiently for somepony to arrive uninvited at there little "House". 

 

"Hopefully she's asleep, I don't want her to know I'm awake"

Foray had only gotten about halfway asleep before he started moving. Although she was less than pleased with his antics, at this point she really didn't feel like dealing with his shit now. Mumbling something unintelligible and rolling over to the opposite side, she quietly drifted off.

THE NEXT MORNING

 

The sun flew throughout the blue sky, signally the morning had come, Quiet who was half-asleep trotted back into tent leaving his bow and arrow behind. Once he squeezed in Quiet, laid down trying to pretend he had been inside the tent all night. He weakly hit Foray with his hoof

Foray had already awoken by the time he started entering the tent. Despite the fact that she knew he hadn't slept, she was still both tired and in a lot of pain, and didn't feel like addressing the subject yet.

 

Muttering something which sounded like a swear to Celestia, she sat up and rubbed her eyes, before casting them around the tent. "Mmph... hey, morning..." she mumbled, using her magic to fix her messed-up braids like she did every morning. Letting out a long yawn, she stared at him tiredly and asked, "Your leg... how is it?"

Quiet would be lying if said it didn't hurt as much.........

 

"Its better now that have gotten sleep." ......So that's exactly what he decided to do. Quiet Storm trotted back to the outside grabbing his bow and arrow and turning around to Foray.

 

"So how's your leg fairing?

"I take it you had a good sleep?" Foray asked, raising one eyebrow, before turning to observe her wound. "It still hurts, but I think it's stopped bleeding. I'll need a new bandage soon though..."

 

Getting up and heading outside the makeshift shelter, she looked around the campsite, before gazing at the rising sun. "We'd better eat something and then pack up, got a ways to travel..."
