Discord needed to make a change. He had really lost his cool when he had found out that Fluttershy was hanging out with TreeHugger behind his back. No, not behind his back, that is not how its supposed to be worded; she just had different friends for different reasons, just the same as anyone else in their circle of friends. No need to be jealous, no need to use the Shmooze and other primordial entities to cause mishaps, no need to feel anything but happy for how far fluttershy has come in such short time.

 

And yet here he was drowning in irritation. He needed to vent, he needed to cause some kind of disruption or else he was going to go mad with these circular thoughts about this..."Treesy" taking Fluttershy's time

 

Treesy...Trees....He grinned and opened his eyes, floating about in his pocket dimension contorted in all different angles in contemplation. Apple Jack had quite a few trees, and at this time of day she'd probably be working her farm.

 

With a Casual snap of his fingers he blinked into reality right behind Applejack on her farm, Mewling out in mock dispair 

 

"Apple Jack" he exclaimed as he warped in "How's it going!"

Right before Discord came in to ruin her day, she was busy doing her usual chores. Kicking Apple trees. She sighed while wiping sweat off her forehead. "12 more trees to go.." She muttered to herself as she began walking towards the next Apple tree. So far she had kicked (at least) 28 Apple trees, with 1400 apples by her side. Applejack's legs looks like they were about to kick someone in the face. This always inspires her to keep on going until a strange feeling came over her.

 

"Huh?" She turned around to see a oddly shaped Creature- no, a FRIENDLY shaped creature that had rudely interrupted her day chores on the farm. AJ guessed it, it was Discord. One of her unreliable but hilarious friends.

 

"Oh howdy Discord.." AJ said in a sarcastic voice, feeling her rage perking up from the ground. "What are y'all doing on mah farm?" She asked, kicking the tree that was in front of her. Bit by bit, the apples came falling down, filling up the baskets evenly.

Discord waved his paw in the air as he floated their suspended upside down causing one of the last apples that fell off the tree to divert its trajectory towards him. The solitary apple began orbiting him as he stroked his chin in mock contemplation of what she asked.

 

"Weeeelll" With each pass behind his body, the apple changed shape and size, cycling through a myriad of hues and contorted positions till it barely even resembled an apple before he brought into his grasp. He nonchalantly rubbed the misshapen fruit on his chest as he continued "I thought I'd check in on one of my good friends"

 

He gave her a sidelong glance and grin of amusement "we are good friends are we not?" The melodic way he asked it, mischief flavoring each syllable, was only punctuated by a loud crunch as he bit into the thing that was an apple.

Applejack was starting to get more angry at Discord for his mocking temptation. With a hustle, she lifted the heavy basket onto her supporting back, making sure the basket doesn't fall off or spill over. Just calm down AJ.. He's only here to interrupt your daily chores.. Just don't let him mess with your mind and he'll be fine..

 

A small sign breathed across her lips carefully, looking over at her Friend that had gladly dropped in to ruin any chances of seeing the sun fade into the night.

 

"Yes we are good Friends.. But that doesn't mean that Ah'm giving y'all permission to creep around on mah property! Don't y'all know how special mah apples are?" She growled again at him. Seeing this is the perfect opportunity to try getting away from any distractions/trouble making, Apllejack started walking towards the next Apple tree, not minding the Breeze that flows along her ponytails.

Discords grin broadened as she sauntered off to the next tree. Next to rainbow Dash she was one of the easier to get riled up, and it made him rather excited. He didn't want to cause too much mischief, but her budding irritation was getting him excited.

 

with a flash he seemed to vanish from existence, only to show up as pair of eyes and mouth on Apple Jacks hat. It was from that position on her head that he continued

 

"Who said I was creeping? I made myself known the instant I showed up on your property. Creeping would imply that I had been sneaking about without your knowledge, which I totally could of done." 

 

He held back silent chuckles as he nestled on top of her head

Applejack sighed, shaking her head gently. Trying to ignore his ignorance comments, she tried to continue her normal chore. Kicking down the apples that reborn on the trees. She was this close to yelling at Discord between rage and her usual tone,

 

She closed her eyes gently, taking off her hat and sitting down besides the tree. A unsatisfactory sigh breathed onto her calm and swollen throat.

 

"Look, Discord. Just state your purpose why y'all are interrupting my work and get out of here.." She said in her honest tone. AJ wasn't up for a fight but what could be interrupted her work has to be important.

 

"Well? Are y'all gonna talk or be on your way?"

That wasn't a fun response. He was expecting her to end up running off in a huff and here he was staring face to hat-face with her. Something about that seemed to break his resolve a bit and made him think about what caused him to come in the first place. 

 

The eyes and mouth of the had closed and was replaced with a door that a miniature version of himself stepped out of and closed, making it vanish upon the tell tale sign of a click. His head was drooped down as he rubbed behind his neck.

 

"Fluttershy wen't off to spend time with HER again..." he said, a hint of frustration flavoring his tone as he plopped down on the brim of her hat and looked to the side. Fluttershy had told him that she was going out on some excursion into the Wild with Just Tree Hugger and her, and that it was supposed to be alone time for the two of them. She said they'd still have tuesday tea, but this was "treesy's time" 

 

He didn't want it to make him feel like this...but he did 

 

"I...I'm trying to..." he felt and looked defeated. He couldn't make Tree Hugger go away, but Fluttershy really liked her, liked her in a way he didn't want to admit.

 

"....she...." The way she got lost in conversations with this mare, the way they could talk about things that he never bothered to learn about when he caused chaos,

 

"They..." the way they shared poetry together... Each sentence he tried to start met in failure and frustration. instead of distracting him from the truth it ended up making it all bubble up to the forefront of his mind. There were ways this tree Hugger connected to Fluttershy that He'd never be able too. It made him feel lonely in a way he hadn't been in the eons he had been alive. 

 

"...never mind..." he alighted off of the hat and his miniature body started to slowly float off "...i'm just being silly I guess..."

Applejack had just gotten the whole purpose why Discord was interrupting her work. Because Fluttershy and Treehugger was spending time together without Discord. She finally understood what was going on.

 

"Discord? ... Look.. Ah'm sorry.. Ah didn't expect company from anypony but maybe Rainbow Dash cause.. Well.. She likes to hang around me." Suddenly, she did something unusual and unlike herself. She pulled Discord into her embrace and lightly squeezed the creature.

 

"Hey, it's alright. Ah know it's hard without Flutters around y'all 24/7.. But hey, even good Friend have friends as well.. Between you and me.." She leaned into his tiny ear and whispered lightly.

 

"Ah'm not quite fond of Treehugger mahself.." A honest smile appeared on the earth ponys muzzle as she placed her hat back on her head, waiting for a response from the miniature creature. While she waited, she picked up a fresh Apple from her pile of apples and apples. A soft crunch could be heard as Applejack continued to eat her Favourite fruit. An Apple.

The hug surprised him, and despite himself he felt a bit of a flush to his cheeks. He hoped she didn't notice that as she continued talking, and when she mentioned what she thought of Tree Hugger he let out a loud but short laugh

 

"HA! I know right!? I mean, what kind of Name is Tree Hugger anyway, and her Singing, I've heard Whales that sounded more soothing..." He stopped himself from continuing and slumped in the Ponies hooves. He felt bad about what he said. Bad! He was the spirit of Chaos, he had Equestria in the palm of his hand for Celestia knows how long, and yet one feeling seemed to suck all the power out of his body and make him feel weak. 

 

A broken heart 

 

"...but, she's her...you know...If I want to be Fluttershy's friend I have to support her, even if I don't like her... " he gestured in the air with exaggerated air quotes " friend that is a mare...if you catch my meaning..."

 

He half hoped the emphasis he had put on the word friend wouldn't sound as bitter as he felt about Tree hugger and Fluttershy's relationship. He wished he could just turn this blasted feeling off with a flick of his fingers but it seemed that this was something chaos magic couldn't change. 

 

He was pretty comfortable in Apple Jacks hug though, as much as it surprised him it was a nice gesture none the less.

Applejack chuckled slightly and smiled. A wave of confusion washed over the earth pony as she tried to catch what Discord meant by "Friend". "Wait a moment.. Are y'all saying.. Flutters and Treehugger are in a relationship?" She asked, realising the answer to her puzzle hat was confusing her.

 

A slight snicker of laughter came rushing out of her muzzle, faster than a buffalo next to a speeding train. "O-oh my celestia!" She started to calm down after her unexpected gush of laughter.

 

"Well.. It's not that ah don't like it.. Ah always thought Flutters was quite suspicious around other mares.. Giving them the.. Wink eye and such.. Well.. You can't drag flutters along with you. Y'all end up with a raging Pegasus by your side.." She said, looking up at the sky with a soft smile appearing on her face.

 

Applejack looked around to see Granny Smith, Apple Bloom and Big Macintosh having Apple pie for lunch. What the hay!? They didn't remind me that it's break!

 

"Hey Discord, do you want some Apple pie? Cause it's break time for mah family or.. Do you want to stay here..?" AJ asked, letting go of Discord to get the ability to stand up.

Something in the way she laughed made him feel at ease. It was warm and friendly and...honest. He wouldn't say it lifted his spirits, but it had taken a bit of the sting out of the feelings he was wrestling with. 

 

He supposed there was no beating around the bush now that it was finally said by AJ. Fluttershy was into mares, and she had a Mare Friend. Whatever he thought of their friendship or more was simply not meant to be. Applejack had sounded like she was speaking from a place of familiarity when she talked about a 'raging mare' , but he decided not to press it at the moment. 

 

As she went to stand up he grew back to his usual size "That does sound fairly good now that you mention it" he made his stomach exaggeratedly grumble, it visibly rumbled about for comedic effect "I'd be happy to accompany you" he added with some of his usual mirth returning to his voice.

Applejack, with the heavy load of apples on her back, started walking towards the barn. Seeing how far the barn was from where she was. She had to walk at least 3 km. She sighed lightly, looking up at the gorgeous sky above her,

 

"Apple Jack!" A squeaky voice could be heard from near. Sounds like a familiar filly- No, she realised now, it was her younger Sister Apple Bloom!

 

A soft chuckle could be heard from the farmer, seeing how fast Apple Bloom was going. "Sis! The Apple pie is ready! Sorry I couldn't told you earlier! I just realised now and I was thinking "Where's Applejack?" So i came running to find you and.. Here we ar-" her gaze meets apon the creature behind Applejack. "AJ.. Discords joining us for lunch!?" She said, stars in her eyes. "Heh, you said it sis.. He's joining us for lunch.." Squees could be heard all around the young filly.

 

"Discord! Look! I got my cutiemark a few weeks ago!!" Applebloom said, turning herself around to relieve her cutiemark. "Ah'll be on mah way towards lunch. Feel free to pick up Applebloom on y'all way here.." Applejack said, making her way towards the table where Granny Smith and Big Mac was.

Before Discord was really able to react, Applebloom had scurried up him and rested herself on top of his head between his horn and antler, rattling off every little thing she had done in the past few weeks as he floated on towards the house. He had made his body stretch a bit so it wasn't all that uncomfortable for the filly, and even used his magic to keep her in place as he did a few loops in the air, causing her to laugh hysterically as he bobbed and weaved. Discord could vaguely recall rides from eons ago that resembled the motions he was doing

Roller coasters if he recalled it correctly. That was before this universe even existed. The ponies would probably get some eventually though.

 

She was a bit dizzy, but she was also excited as she waddled into the house on unsteady hooves

 

"AppleJack! Applejack! Ah went on Discords head and  Discord went into the air and was loopin about and ah was like 'whoooaa' and 'wooosh' and we spun about and flipped and it was SO EXCITING!!" She rattled all of that out in one breath, the flush of adrenaline still on her cheeks as she hopped around her sisters hooves.
