"Well, t-thanks..." Steady laid he head on Red again just as the others came through the brush.

 

"We're here Steady! Oh good you already have everything set up! Hey there Red, good to see you here."

"Oh, hey Nel," Red said takeing his hat off Steady's head and trotting up to him, "What goes on?"

"Besides the concert? Not much, are you ready to go?" Nel spoke while waving at Strobe and Dancer to tell them to set up.

"My bass and trumpet are ready to go."

"good, now we just have to wait for the crowd." Over the span of a few hours ponies began to filter in from the surrounding tree line. Many gave worried looks to each other until a large crowd had formed. Nel picked up a mic and switched it on.

 

"Wow, I wasn't sure so many ponies were going to show up! Thanks for taking the time to join us. Before we start I want everypony to know that this IS illegal which is the very problem we're trying to solve. All we ask is that you all listen and try to see the stupidity of banning music!" Scattered applause throughout the crowd showed some were willing to stay.

 

"Alright, let's get this show started!" Nel motioned for Red to come up.

Red picked up his bass and trumpet. He walked out to the stage. "Hello everypony," he starts out, "I wasn't expecting to start out, but here we are now. I guess let's get this started." He gets ready with one hand on the trumpet and one hand on the bass fret board and starts playing.

 

 

(Can't think of a pony pun for Louisiana.)

The song ended to a wave of applause. Nel looked out and saw some ponies with bored expressions still on their faces. He took it as his cue to take his turn.

 

"Alright everypony, if that wasn't your cup of tea than this should satisfy you!"

"Is Nel usually obsessed with elevators?" Red asked Steady oblivious to what the song actually means.

 

(I'm going to get Sand Crystal in here.)

 

Sand Crystal, leaving town, overheard the music. He turned to see the lights filling up the night. "What's going on over there and why does it involve an elevator?" Sand asked trotting over there, "I don't even see the point in elevators. When I was a kid, we had good old stairs." He soon found himself in a crowd of young ponies dancing. "Kids these days," he said to himself.

Red hid behind the curtain and just watched and listened. He closed his eyes a couple of times just to drink in Steady's voice.

Steady bowed with a cheerful grin as she made her way back offstage.

 

"What did you think Red? Did you like it?"

"It was great. I loved it," Red said.

"Really? I'm so happy! You want to play our duet now?"

"You bet. Let's get out there." Red leads Steady out to the stage. He gets ready and starts playing.

The pair bowed and exited once more to the ever growing cheers of the crowd. Nel walked up with an open mouth.

 

"I didn't know you two were doing a duet."

"We were," Red replied, "That's what we were working on yesterday."

"hm, alright then Steady, do you want to do our duet next? Then we can let Strobe and Dancer do their thing."

 

"Sure! Let's go Nel!" Steady grabbed Nel by the hoof just as a new track started.

Red, once again, hid behind the curtain and watched. He noticed how the whole crowd danced. "Interesting world outside the coffee shops and music halls," he thought to himself.

 

"So that's what my boy's been doin'," Sand Crystal said, "Well, least he's stubborn 'bout it." After seeing enough, he left with a little smirk. Even though his son's a criminal, Sand has to admit that it's good to use his talents.

Steady bowed once more with Nel but froze when she saw a familiar pony leaving the concert. The glass blower...

 

"Red, I think you're dad was watching us. He just left."

"What?" Red asked, "You can't be serious. My... My..." Red couldn't finish his sentence. He just looked down. "What's going to happen now?" he asked quietly.

[Twinight125 45]

"I don't know Red... But he was smiling."

 

Nel added while sitting next to them.

"Smiling?" Red asked in confusion, "Why would he be smiling?"

"Maybe he liked it Red! Maybe he liked your performance!" Steady grabbed Red's hoof and held it to her chest. Nel watched with a blank stare.
