A Way of Introductions

 

 

It was late afternoon in the busy inner city of Manehattan, 

 

A young colt with a bluish coat like that of a clear night sky sat impatiently in a old run down cafe just west of Mane street, He glanced around him, and rest his fore legs on the wooden coffee table in front of him. He’s already waited 2 hours for a simple cup of coffee and his patience had already begun to wane...

 

Where.is.that.WAITRESS!

 

He exclaimed in a voice that echoed throughout the establishment, as he slammed his hooves  so hard on the table's surface that it had caused  the base to tremble from the impact. A strange black aura began to emit subtly from his being.

 

"Hey! I've been waiting 2 hours for a simple cup of coffee! What kind of place is this?!"

In the corners of the café, a peach coated young "mare" with wild red mane is seen... sleeping, as usual. The lazy fox pony's name is Kimi Vulpine. It's been a while since she's seen her last costumer... how long was it... a week... a month?

 

This place feels like it's been abandoned for years! It's no surprise though. Rumors fly by about it having the worst waitress of all time and terrible food, even with the café's charming looks and comfy furniture. It really is a mystery how it has been able to pay the bills for a year... no... a single month!

 

The sudden desk slam woke up the sleepy head, and she slowly moved over to the only costumer at that café.
"A costumer? Can't believe people still come to this place"

 

– Ah... good evening... *yawn* What can I do for you? – she says as she picks up a crumpled piece of paper and a feather pen.

The night blue Pony's Honey brown eyes twitched a little, as he glared angrily at the fox mare. He calmly closed his eyes and took a deep breath. He couldn't believe that the only employee in this entire establishment had been asleep.

 

I'm amazed you're still in business ...

 

COFFEE. HOT. PLEASE.

 

He ordered before slumping back down on his wooden seat. He needed to calm down. Last time he got angry he almost blew a whole city block to pieces .”Easy now….” He calmed himself. If it wasn't for the near desolate space of the establishment Crescent would never even have gone here.

 

"And get me whatever's on special"

 

He commanded rudely with a scowl.

– Fine. I'll get you... whatever there is available. – Said Kimi, not very intimidated with the colt's angry glare.

 

As she prepared the coffee in the old, broken machine, she started to think about what the special could be. What's on the menu, anyways? She glared at the dusty paper.

 

- Strawberry cake (NOT AVAILABLE)

- Wildflower Sallad (NOT AVAILABLE)

- Cookies & Milk (NOT AVAILABLE)

- Chocolate Brownies (NOT AVAILABLE)

- Pancakes [THE PRINCESS' FAVORITE!] (NOT AVAILABLE)

- Muffins (NOT AVAILABLE)

 

"Sigh... what kind of restaurant doesn't even have food?"

With little thought, she just picked up a half eaten daisy sandwich from behind the counter and gave it to the annoyed blue colt, along with cold coffee. How professional.

 

– There you go. Any complaints, just talk to the recepcionist... that is, when she comes back. She's on vacation right now for a long time... what did she say again? – she pondered a bit – Oh yes, forever. Have a good day, sir.

Crescent's tail began moving like a living being and gripped the cup's handle , lifting it towards his lips.Crescent took a sip of the rancid cold coffee and bit unto the half eaten sandwich,  It wasn't five star dining by far but at least he was alone. He turned his attention towards the young Fox mare at the counter. It had never occurred to him that he's never seen one before. It scratched at his mind as he wondered what a mare like that would be doing in a run down old cafe. 

 

"So what's your deal?"

 

He finally asked her, with a blunt and calm expression, as he took another sip of the cold coffee. 

 

"Not everyday I see a Fox mare, much less one working in a place like this"

Just as she was ready to go back to sleep, the question catches Kimi's attention. A bit embarassed, she anwsers quickly:

 

– Eh, I guess i'm not exactly considered "normal". I'm glad you don't know about that stuff, though. My parents used to tell everypony about how special I am and stuff like that. So annoying. – She pauses for a bit. Kimi isn't very fond of talking about her species, as she herself doesn't know about that, which is something that upsets her quite a bit. "Why does everypony cares about that?", she ponders with a slightly annoyed expression in her face.

 

Quickly, she tries to change the topic.

– I'm pretty surprised a costumer showed up after such a long time without seeing one. I mean, at least somepony should have told you how terrible this café is... and about the awful waitress.  I take you're new in this city?

"Yes I am, and you're not that awful"

 

He feintly smiled towards her  as he popped bite of his sandwich into his mouth. 

 

"I mean, This is a pretty good half-eaten sandwich" He munched. wondering why the young mare had chosen to switch topic.

 

"I know this is awful of me but to be honest, I came here because I noticed no one else was around" He explained. "I'm just not that comfortable with crowds. I know it's weird but I just like being alone...." He added with a faint smile.

Kimi blushes a bit.

 

– Thanks. You don't need to lie, though. I know i'm not qualified for this. – She laughs while excitedly waving around her tail. Kimi tries not to take this seriously, but a part of her is glad for being complimented about her work for once.

 

– Being alone is not weird – She adds, – I kinda like it here, with its calm atmosphere. It makes it easier for me to slack off. Partying is fun, but it's good to have a place where nobody looks at me funny.

 

She couldn't help but smile while looking at the stallion's relieved expression.

 

– So... I guess I haven't introduced myself yet. How rude of me. – She giggles – My name's Kimi. Kimi Vulpine.

"I like the way your tail moves, it's cute" He smiled. The Blue pegasus sipped the last drip of coffee from his porcelain cup and stretched his arms a little. the quiet breeze of the cafe made him feel at ease.

 

"thats a nice name, Ms. Vulpine" He finally spoke,his tone a mix of sweet and calm."I think I'll call you kimmi" He added with a sly smile.

 

"My name is Crescent Light, it's a pleasure to meet you"

Kimi stops waving her tail in embarassment. – Oh... thanks – Kimi speaks quietly and gives a cute, awkward smile. She usually dislikes being called cute by others, but that stallion saying it for some reason felt okay.

 

– So, Crescent Light, huh? Nice name. – She started looking more at him. His dark blue coat, shiny brown eyes and cute tie are pretty eye catching, after all. "He's not that bad looking, huh" she thought. "Haha, what am I thinking, swooning over my costumer like that?" Kimi decided to tease him a bit:

 

– I wonder what made you so calm all of the sudden? I mean, you weren't exactly paciently waiting here, but when I finally responded, you've become a lot less "agitated". Does that have to do with the "cute" waitress? – She laughed, and started playing with her hair.

There was something about the way the Fox mare smiled that made Crescent's heart start beating a bit faster. He never noticed how cute she was until that very moment. Crescent shook his head. He barely knew this mare, why was he feeling this way.

 

"Maybe it did" He winked and smiled, teasing her back. "but If I told you the truth I bet you wouldn't believe me" He grinned,his brown eyes began glowing faintly as he spoke.

– Smooth – Kimi smiles, and picks up another crumpled piece of paper. She seems to be writing something. Crescent just stood there, quietly waiting for her to finish, while looking at the mare's emerald eyes.

 

– So, I wonder what this truth is? – She says, still writing something. She stops writing for a moment and looks up. She realises that he was looking at her this whole time. The peach coated mare's cheeks start to glow bright red and she hands (hooves) him over the piece of paper.

 

What was in the paper? Her number.

 

– We're going to close soon. – Kimi frowns a little. – I hope i'll see you tomorrow, that is, if you're free?

Crescent sat curiously as Kimi wrote something into the crumpled slip of paper. He couldn't help but notice the pretty green hue in her eyes.

 

"Let's just say I turn into a bit of a monster when I lose control" Crescent chuckled, his eyes began glowing more brightly.

 

"Y-... Your number? " He chuckled with smile as he rose from his seat.

 

"I think I have a better idea" He lightly grinned.

 

"Why don't I take you out tonight, I'll make it worth your while"

 

He suggested , with a flirtish wink. Crescent may have been a pony that loved solitude but he was never one to shy away from social interactions.

– Heh, didn't think that you were that kind of guy... I like that. – Kimi gives him a flirty smile. While closing the café, they talked for a little and laughed at the "unexpected" turn of events. Being the lazy mare she is, of course she just closed the door and walked off without noticing she forgot to lock it. The cute stallion talking to her might have made her more forgetful than usual.

 

While they walked, they talked and started to know each other better.

– I wonder where you're taking me? – Kimi asks in a friendly tone.

 

– You'll see – The blue stallion replied, giving her a mysterious smile.

 

After some walking and laughing, Kimi finds herself at a very cozy and quiet restaurant with dark night colors and cute pink tables. There aren't many ponies there.

 

– This place fits you. It's quiet, mysterious and a bit off-putting, but still warm and nice. – Kimi joked. They picked a table and waited for the waitress to bring them the menu, "I wonder if this waitress will take 2 hours to get here?" She wondered, thinking about the bad first impression she gave. As with every negative thought she has, she just laughed it off.

 

– Hm? Is something wrong? – Crescent asked with a bit of worry in his eyes.

 

– It's nothing, it's nothing. – She assured him, still giggling. He got a bit confused, but let it slide.

 

 

– So, what do you do for a living? You don't look like you would have a job as boring as mine – Kimi smiled.

Crescent loved the little restaurant just 5th of Mane street , The atmosphere had always been homey to him. He liked the open air that flowed through the store's interior , as well the antique wooden tables  draped over with pink cloth. 

 

"I'm a detective of sorts"

 

He winked , with a sly smile.  Sharp fangs protruding for a a brief moment as he had said this. 

 

"It may not be boring, but I prefer your more relaxing job any day of the week!"

 

He added, all of a sudden he noticed how beautiful Kimi's eyes were, For some reason it had made feel happy, as if he could stare at them for hours....

 

"Erm....are you staring at my eyes?"

 

Kimi interrupted his inner monologue...

 

"What?! I...no!" 

 

Crescent denied ...

 

"Relax, goober, I like your eyes too"

 

She winked with a flirtish smile, causing Crescent to nearly fall off his seat. 

 

"So...erm...tell me about your family" 

 

He spoke, attempting to divert the situation while filling up both their glasses with the Cider.

– Changing topic, are we? Subtle, subtle – Kimi playfully laughs at Crescent's embarassment. His face must be burning right now. Suddenly, her expression gets a bit darker.

 

– My family, heh... my parents surprisingly aren't fox ponies like me. They're actually unicorns. Yeah, I know, weird. So, they treated me like I was something special and rare, and did interviews all the time about their "gifted foal". It was pretty boring, so I didn't show up at those interviews after a while, and had to stay with a very annoying foalsitter and stuff... but you don't want to hear about this boring stuff, right? We're here to have fun! – Kimi gave a friendly smile.

 

– No, it's okay, we can talk about it-

 

– Good evening. Your order, please. – The waitress interrupted.

 

– Oh, sure. Do you have soft-shell crab sandwiches? – Kimi asked.

 

– C-crabs? You eat... crabs? – The waitress said in shock. Crescent was a bit surprised, but not disgusted like the waitress was.

 

– Eh, forget about it, just give me some hay fries. – Kimi looked a bit annoyed. Her diet is omnivore like that of a fox, but she still can eat normal pony food. The places she normally goes have food like that, and she's used at being given weird looks by being different from the rest. – Hay fries for me as well.

 

– So, you eat different stuff too, huh? That's pretty cool – The navy pegasus said while giving a sweet smile, trying to improve her mood.

 

– At least somepony understands, haha.

Welcome to the Monster Cafe

 

"Forgive the waitress ma'dear she's new"

 

Crescent smiled with a monstrous grin as he called forth a new waitress, Soon enough a new one skittered forth, She had a figure that would send most ponies running in fear, but the customers there didn't seem to care,  The waitress had 8 long spidery legs that replaced half of her body and a clip board held by her front hooves, The upper part of her body was that of a mare and a rather beautiful one at that, her hair cut short and black as the night and her coat as white as frost.  

 

"Good evening, Moon butt, and Apologies for the new blood,They can be a little squeamish"  The spider mare spoke with a casual yet malevolent tone, like a cross between a Good friend and that of a wicked empress.  "I assume you'll be having the usual?" She grinned, already jotting down the order. "and I believe this pretty little thing will be having the soft shell crab sandwhich?" She smirked, adding the order to the list. "Excuse my manners dear, My name is Lady Kumo" She smiled towards her.

– Lady Kumo, eh? Name's Kimi Vulpine... Guess we have some things in common – She gives a playful wink, while curiously looking at the spider mare. – Honestly, i'm quite surprise I haven't came here before. It's a pretty cool place.

 

– Thanks, foxy. We try to make this as unique an experience as possible. It seems the new waitress doesn't understand that yet, unfortunately. You bet this is not going to happen again – Kumo gives a mischievous smile as she takes notes. – I'll get your order, be right back.

 

– Ah, Lady Kumo... quite the character, isn't she? – Crescent laughs. – As a simple, "normal" pegasus, I have always been a fan of the mysterious and unexplicable, and this restaurant certainly delivers. I knew you were the type of mare who would like such an interesting place.

 

– It sure isn't boring like where I work at. I'm glad you're the type who seeks some... excitement in life – She gave a flirty smile while happily waving her tail around.

 

 

– I... um... – Crescent was a bit embarassed by Kimi's advances. Fortunately, Kumo quickly came with the order and broke the awkwardness... or it would have broken if it wasn't for what she said:
 

– There you go, lovebirds. Gonna give you some privacy now. Just don't do anything I wouldn't do. – She laughed and walked away.
