It was a cold winters night and Mist Twister was spending yet another early evening at his special place, a small cliff side on the outskirts of Sweet Apple Acres. He sighed as he sat there wishing that he had been born a Pegasus. But no matter how hard he tried he woulf always be a Batpony. And life for a Batpony was hard. In the after math of the Luna Celestia war Batponies had faded into obscurity and become nothing more than myth and legend. They were believed to drink the blood of other ponies. This made ponies fear Batpony's like himself. And being feared made it hard to find friendship and it made it impossible to find love.

Dawn didn't really know why she was walking along a beach near Ponyville's local farm, but figured it probably had to do with the way people reacted to seeing her. She was an alicorn and yet not royalty. That little fact tended to throw other ponies off, yet they still treated her like a princess. "I just don't see what the big deal is. I mean, I'm an alicorn, but that doesn't make me better than anyone else." She said to no one in particular, looking over the horizon.

Mist sighed as he got up from where he was sitting. He decided that he had done enough mopeing for one evening. He spread his Batwings and took to the sky. Suddenly a bird came from out of nowhere and hit him. He went out of control and crash landed. Luckily he managed to land on a soft sandy beach.

Dawn was brought out of her musings when she heard something impa the sand a few yards from her and rushed to the scene. She used her wings to clear away any sand that hadn't settled and immediately noticed a bat pony in the center of it all. The alicorn slowly approached him and nudged him. "Hey, are you ok?" She asked.

"Yeah I'm okay," said Mist as he picked himself up off the ground, "I've done a lot worse trust me." After dusting himself off he got a good look at the pony who was speaking to him. He was surprised to find that she was an Alicorn and he was taken back by her pretty she was. "You're an Alicorn."

Dawn stepped back a bit and pressed her wings against her body, before looking down at the sand. "Yeah. I guess I am." She said, not noticing that she was currently speaking with a bat pony. "That's the first thing other tend to notice about me at least, and that's all they ever see."

"That's stupid of ponies," Mist said with a slight smile, "it shouldn't matter what species a pony is. It's about who they are inside. And I'm sorry if I made a big deal about you being an Alicorn. It's just I've only ever seen two other Alicorns in my entire life."

Dawn gave a light smile and looked directly at Mist. It was then that she noticed that he was a bat pony, but didn't really care about that. "That's understandable. It's nice to know that some pony can look past all of this, though." She said, motioning towards herself."My Name is Dawn, by the way. Who are you?"

"My name is Mist Twister," he said with a warm smile, "and it's a pleasure to meet you Dawn." As Mist smiled at Dawn he wondered why she hadn't run away yet. Surely she had heard the stories of what Batponies supposedly did. "I have a question. You do realise I'm a batpony right?"

Dawn gave a light nod and knew what Mist was getting at. "I heard a few stories about your kind, but you could've made them true at any time I wasn't paying attention and been on your way. You didn't, so that proves that the stories are just biased rumors." Of course, the alicorn could've been wrong, but it was worth the risk.

Mist blushed a bit and smiled, "Well thank you Dawn," he said happily, "that's very kind of you to say." He was surprised that Dawn wasn't scared of him. He'd never met anyone who hadnt thought he was a monster. But then again no one had ever stuck around to say hi. "So what brings you here this time of night?"

Dawn glanced at the bat pony and sat down on the warm sand. "I just wanted to get out a bit without getting stares." She said. "I figured here would be a good spot. I wasn't expecting to met you, but I'm glad I did." The alicorn then patted the sand next to her, signaling Mist to sit next her if he wanted to.

The night sky made it hard to tell but Mist was blushing a bit. He had never had a pony invite him to sit with them. Especially not somepony who was so beautiful. Mist sat down next to Dawn and smiled, "I like to come out here to. The crisp night air really allows me to clear my thoughts."

Dawn nodded in thought and felt herself relax as a cold breeze blew over her fur. "Yeah. That's understandable." She said. An idea then began to form in the alicorn's mind, by she didn't know how Mist would react to it. "I used to go outside when I was younger and just spend hours looking into the night sky. I prefer the night over the dat in most cases."

"I love staring at the night sky to. Most nights i pay particular attention to the moon. Or rather the mare that's trapped there," said Mist with a sigh, "I know Nightmare Moon wanted to bring night time eternal. But to us Batponies she will also be Luna, the kind ruler who would watch over us in the night."

Dawn noticed the drop almost instantaneous dropin Mist's emotions and placed a wing over his back. "It's ok. I'm sure she'll return one day." She said. The alicorn didn't know if that was true or not, but figured it was probably the best thing to say at the time.

Mist was a bit surprised to feel Dawn's wing on his back but it was quite nice. Mist blushed a bit, "thanks Dawn," he said with a small smile, "that's nice of you to say." Mist sat in silence for a while. He wanted to keep the conversation going do he said the first thing that popped into his head, "do you have a boyfriend?" As soon as he said those words he wanted to take it back. Why did he ask that? He tried to fix it but only made things worse, "you probably do, being as beautiful as you are." Mist face went a deep red

Dawn couldn't help but blush at what Mist had said and felt like she had just gotten five pounds lighter. "Umm, no. I don't." She said, The alicorn could take a few guesses as to what the bat pony next to her had in mind, but wouldn't make assumptions so soon. "I haven't really thought about those sort of things."

Mist, who was still blushing a bit, gave a feint smile and looked away from Dawn. He couldn't believe he had just asked that. And he couldn't believe that she responded so calmly. Then again he had no idea how a girl was supposed to act when asked that. He looked back at Dawn. "Well...um.......since you don't....ha ..have a boyfriend maybe you might l...like to go...t...to dinner with me."

Dawn couldn't help but blush and felt like the world was falling out from under her. To be honest, she didn't really know how to respond, but knew that it would be rude to say nothing, and she didnt really have anything else planned for tonight. The alicorn then gave a warm smile and gave a slight nod. "Sure. That would be wonderful." She said.

Mists face went deep red and he almost past out. He couldn't believe it. He was sitting next to the most beautiful mare in Equestria and she had just agreed to go out to dinner with him. "You really mean it?" asked Mist as he prayed to Celestia that this wasn't some cruel joke, "you'll go on a date with me?"

Dawn nodded slightly and nuzzled into Mist's side. "Of course I meant it." She said. The alicorn could tell that the bat pony was nervous, and couldn't help but find him cute when he was like that. He also wasn't that bad when it came to looks and from what she could see, they had a few things in common.

Mist's heart began beating rapidly in his chest. He couldn't believe it he had a date. Most Batponies usually never made friends, who weren't other Batponies, and yet here he was. About to go on a date with an actuall mare. "Do you have anywhere in particular you might want to go?"

Dawn thought for a moment before shaking her head. "I think I'll let you decide, though somewhere that wouldn't draw a lot of attention would be nice." She said. The alicorn didn't know how successful they would be considering what they were, but figured they could at least give it a shot.

Mist thought about and remembered somewhere that would be perfect. "I do actually l know of one place that might work," said Mist with a smile, "it hardly gets any customers cause it's in the everfree. I used to go there all the time. So if you're up for it we could go there."
