gaming One Piece Burning Blood

One Piece Burning Blood has recently released, it is a fighting game based on the one Piece franchise. While I have never been the biggest fan of One Piece due to cliches that it has, I was thinking that a One Piece fighting game would be friggin' awesome. The amount of characters, the variety, it is all there.

I got the game and well..I am pretty underwhelmed so far. Like most Bandai Namco fighting games, the presentation is amazing, the graphics are crisp and it gives you a very similar feeling to the show in its own way. However, the fighting engine itself is insanely shallow and clunky. It is just not pulling me in like I would have hoped. Plus, the lack of information on some things is astoundingly bad. For example, there is a leveling up system in the game where character slevel up as you use them. I have absolutely no idea what leveling characters up even does. I assume it makes them stronger, but the game does not tell you at all. There is literally no information regarding this system whatsoever in the game. The game seems to have chosen style over substance.

So at this point, it is a mixed bag for me. I am hoping that maybe I will start to enjoy it more, but for $60, I am disappointed. Plus the game had day 1 DLC, yay...

Anyone else have it? What are your thoughts?

I don't really trust Bandai Namco fighting games. I stayed away for years after their DBZ games started getting worse and worse. I gave them another shot with Xenoverse but that was so shallow that even the co-op failed to keep me playing. Burning Blood had some fantastic trailers, and as a One Piece fan I was excited as hell for the game. But with the Bandai Namco name and Xenoverse still fresh in my mind, I decided to wait for reviews. I'm glad I did, as you're echoing what I've heard from other sources. A shallow but good looking title that's relying on fan loyalty to sell instead of solid gameplay. I'll be passing on this one.

I have yet to watch the anime itself, but I am seriously considering purchasing this game once I get my Xbox One. I have always found the characters from the franchise to be intriguing and I think that this would be a really cool game!

I recommend renting it first. I agree with you that the characters have insane variety and how the game portrays their abilities is awesome, but only in visuals. The fighting engine itself is rather clunky. I am enjoying the game a bit more now, but I would rent it for a couple of days if possible to see if you like how it feels in actual gameplay.
