Jack nodded "You will learn it in due time. I heard that hell week is coming back again, this time there is focus on stress." Said Jack as he sipped his tea. He then pointed over at her "So what about you? What kind of restaurants have you been in? You seem like a very skilled chef, with a wider knowledge of different dishes than anyone i have met so far"

 

"Me?" Joanne said, she should have known that he would ask that. Of course, she could lie but that didn't seem fair. She stared at her tea "I haven't really worked at a restaurand actually." she said "I lived in quite a... Multicultural neighboorhood. I picked up some things by watching others cook and asking way too many questions." she said but she didn't mention that watching also ment sneaking into restaurand kitchens and stealing food that got send back.

Jack spotted her hesitation immediatly, and knew something might be bothering her. However, he decided to let the matter go. "Impressive, i am not super fast at learning nor copying. Only teaching, shouting and improvising." Said Jack with a dry laugh. Before he could say more, a voice started talking "All chefs are to gather at the arena for the elite elections. Sorry for the sudden call, but this is to test your freestyle skills and focusing on the stress aspect. If you fail, you get thrown out of the school" Said the voice.

Jack spotted her hesitation immediatly, and knew something might be bothering her. However, he decided to let the matter go. "Impressive, i am not super fast at learning nor copying. Joanne looked up, a grin appeared on her face. "Allright, sounds like fun" she said as she stood up from the table. "I'm gonna get dressed then" she walked upstairs and came back not even a minute later. She grabbed an elastic from the countertop and tied her hair in a ponytail. "This is gonna be fun, but don't you dare to fail, you're the first that I can live with in one house" she said to jack.

Joanne looked up, a grin appeared on her face. "Allright, sounds like fun" she said as she stood up from the table. "I'm gonna get dressed then" she walked upstairs and came back not even a minute later. She grabbed an elastic from the countertop and tied her hair in a ponytail. "Okay, so none of us fails, sounds like a fair deal" joanne said with a wink. Then she opened the door and walked to the arena, she already felt the adrenaline starting to run through her veins, as always before things like this. This rush, this feeling, this is what she lived for. In her head she went through all the things she could potentionally make.

There where 20 students in this round, and only 10 could pass this. He took his spot, and waited for further instructions from the announcer. He was ready. All the other chefs where still muling over what to do, when Jack and Joane went straight to work. Jack instantly threw bacon in a bowel mixed with Jameson, honey and a hint of chilli to let it marinade. He then grapped some eggs and cracked them in a bowl along with some flour to start making bread. He was planning to add Jameson to every part of his meal. He added 10 drops of whiskey for the bread, and started working on the eggs. Frying them on the pan. He then put the bread away under a towel to make it grow.

 

Jack was halfway done, and his hands where a blur of movements as he with a maniac grin worked his magic. Some of the chefs where visibly shocked by his confidence, so they started twrowing ingridients together in a desperate attempt to create something. 30 minutes past, bread was ready. He only wanted a big bread loaf, nothing fancy, so he didn't bother forming it before baking. With the bread baking, Jack started on the eggs, and a dip. He settled for standard scrambled eggs, with again, some Jameson on. However the dip was a funny one. He mixed ketchup, honey, salt, sugar, soya and of course Jameson. The irish maniac took out a dish and put the scrambled eggs on. Then, he took out the bacon from the marinade and fried it. His bacon was done as soon as the bread, so he loaded everything on the dish and slammed down the timer. Making him the first cook to finish.

joanne quickly started with making her dough, since that would need the most time to rest, she added a little bit of oregano in the dough to give it a nice taste, when it was all kneaded well she started making some scrambled eggs, with a bit of chilly pepper to make it a bit spicey. she also made some bacon and let that get all chrispy in a pan. she worked incredibly fast and efficient, doing two things at once and everything in order so that she could quicly move on to the next.  when the dough had rested long enough and she grabbed two small circular trays to make the botom of the pizza on. but she didn't put anything on them yet, she would do that last. 

 

when that was in the oven she started on the topping of the other pizza, personally she didn't like a big breakfast, she prefered something sweet, so she mixed different kinds of berried with a bit of yogurt and some nuts to make a sweet pizza too. when that was done the pizza's were ready too. she got them out of the oven and put them on a plate. on one of them she put the scrambled eggs and added the bacon on top of that, and on the other she put the fruits and added some honey over it too. she cut the pizza in slices and made the plate look good, then she stepped back and looked at the result. defenitly something to be proud of. 

 

then, for the first time, she looked to her fellow students. to her surprise she saw she still had time, but switched off the timer anyway, and that the other students were all still busy. all, except for one. jack seemed to be done already too. she smiled, what else did she expect?

One by One the Students were called Up to the judges, only getting scores ikke 6 and seven. "Jack Connor, please take your dish to the judges" Said the annoncer. Jack smiled as he took his plate and waddled Up to the judges. After they gæster og, their eyes went wide. They quitely discussed his Food and a Big 9,7 erupted om the scoreboard, making the audience lose it. With a Small Smile, he went back to his Small stand.

Damn, she was never going to win this. Jack's score was amazing, no way she was ever going to beat that. Joanne wished she couldn't care but she did, she played to win. When the announcer called her name she took her plate and walked to the judges with her head high and a confident smile on her face.

The judges seemed pleased by the creativity of her dish and from their face she could see that they liked the taste of it too. After they discussed on the scoreboard appeared a 9.6, Joanne let out a curse, she didn't play this game to come in second! But she sighed and walked back to her stand with her head high.

Joanne smiled, at least she did well and the gap between her and the thirth place was huge. She had almost won, almost. This was only more reason to keep improving and getting better and better. Then jack walked over to her and asked if he could taste her dish "sure, go ahead" she said "oh, and congrats with your victory, you deserve it" she added, suprised by the sensere way she said it, and ment it. Usually she was jelous of people who were better at something as her, and she still was, but not as much as usual.

Jack nodded "Thanks. We will need to do a rematch. You aren't worthy of a second place" Said Jack with a wink as he tasted her meal. To say the least, it was good. How he won over that, he had no idea. "Wow, that's pretty good. How did you not win?" Asked Jack, as he looked down at her. He was competitive, but he was sincere as well. So fair play was something he believed in.

joanne shrugged her shoulders "no idea why I didn't win. maybe because I added a bit too much oregano, or maybe the toppings were too boring, I must admit, they are reather easy so myabe they thought I didn't try my best" she said. "but it's not like I didn't deserve second place, you're talented and you have far more experience as I do. it's only fair that you beat me" she smiled and looked up at him.
