I'm having a terrible time trying to come up with a color scheme for this character. The original colors I tried are on the far left. The others, I was just playing around with. I'm not sure I've hit upon anything i like. Can someone let me know what they think?

The hair and eye color are fixed. I am not willing to change them. Please ignore the shoes. They're not important. I'll change them once I decide on a color scheme for her dress, cloak and gems.

Just for a few things on this character: She's a fire mage. She's reserved, unconfident, serious, pessimistic and uncertain. I haven't decided firmly on a name, though the one I've been running with for the time being has been Kladessa.

Originally, I was considering lavender and red, but then I realized that the other main character's color is lavender, so I decided to make Kladessa's main color orange. That's not set in stone, but I'd like to avoid purple and green, as these are colors of two other characters. I'd also like to avoid too much brown or red, because my other characters have a lot of brown and with her own red hair, I feel like a lot of red might be too much.

I don't have my heart set on any of the colors. I was just playing around with them to see what I could come up with. If there's some mixing and matching among these colors, that's fine. Or if you have a suggestion for a totally different color scheme, I'm open to that as well.

Anyway, I'd appreciate if people could provide their input. Thanks! :)

When you say the hair and eye color are fixed do you mean 100% those exact colors, or just red and green semi-broadly?

Cause when I sampled them I got Christmas. Christmas ruined red/green combos haha.

Anyway, I played with some colors and heres what I ended up with.

Your two mandatory colors on the left, although I very slightly modified the green to pull it away from that darker Christmas color I had. That bluegreen as a primary color works well as a split complementary with red and yellow secondary colors. The purple would accent the yellow particularly well and the off white as a secondary accent color.

Anyway, thats what I worked up. I think I got a pretty balanced mix without getting too crazy.

One problem I think you might be having with getting a good set of colors is you use really high saturation across the board so they all sort of overpower each other. Try keeping the really bright stuff to the accenting stuff and be a bit more subtle with the overall. That way the stuff you want to stand out, the hair, eyes, etc, has something to stand out against.  :pinkie:

@@LiraCrown, It seems like the biggest problem was the design. I changed the design and the colors I had worked a lot better. I appreciate you going to the trouble to make a custom palette for me, though. And using those colors was part of what helped me realize that the design was what was causing me so much trouble. Thanks for your help! :)

What's the cutie mark? One thing I've noticed about OCs is that they look better if their coats reflect their marks.

example: Sunset Shimmer's Cutie mark holds a lot of red and orange, thus, her color scheme follows suit. Same with Twilight Sparkle, Rainbow Dash, even Rarity.
