Quinty saw the towers of the big city of manehatten comming closer. A soft light iluminated the city through the gray clouds. It had been a gloomy day with dark clouds packed above her head and the constand thread of upcomming rain in the air. Quinty sighed and kept on walking, the sooner she got there the better. Her backpack was heavy, it was packed with pearls. She could have gone with the train but she didn't want to, she didn't like being around people and wanted to avoid them for as long as possible, even if it ment getting up really early and walking for nearly four hours, before being in manehatten. And there shen would only stay for as long as was strickly needed before going back home.

Finally quinty reached the city, the people all around her already made her feel dizy and annoyed. Quickly she walked to where the market was, pushing away anyone who was in her way. When she came there she set up hee stall and opened her backpack, in it were the glass jars with pearls. Sorted in collor and size. One jar she left in her backpack, that one was the most valuable. It was a small jar with rare black pearls.
When she had put up everything she pulled by a chair and sat down, waiting for customers to come.

Meanwhile, Clockwork was in his workshop with his record player playing an old record of a song he loved about a battle and sung it softly to himself as he went to look for the blueprints for his next big job.

 

"Impartial is my battle cry

For here we stand or here we die
A firefight to light the sky;
The time for reckoning is nigh

Their ships outman us one to three
Your choices now could set you free
I ask you all to fight with me;
A challenge for the world to see"

 

As he was singing to himself, he found the blueprints and then looked at them, it was for a very large grandfather clock for a noble family, as he looked at it he sighs "Black pearls? Now where in Equestria am I supposed to find them? I can't exaclty go river Krust hunting" he says to himself then looks outside, "Great rain, just when I need to go to the market" he says, letting the song finish then grabbing a bag and slinging it across his shoulders. 

 

Sighing he locks the door to his workshop and makes his way to the market, he wasn't neccessarily going to get pearls, he just needed to stock up on food, and he hated being around others, it reminded him too much of when he was little and at school. As he pushed his way through the countless ponies browsing the stalls, his eyes fell upon a lone mare at a stall and as he saw she was selling pearls, he smiles somewhat, his smile even went a little wider as he saw her displeasure of being around other ponies, something they had in common. 

 

He made his way to her stall and had a look at the pearls and shakes his head "Today just seems to be unlucky for me, it isn't a Friday the thirteenth is it?" he asks with a slight chuckle.

Quinty looked up, a customer. With a look of disinterest she looked at him for a while, then she sighed "why would it be so unlucky?" she asked "if you weren't looking for pearls you shouldn't have come to my stall." she said in a sassy way and slightly tilted her head. "Or where you looking for a specific type of pearl that I don't seem to have, you can ask since I have basicly every kind of pearl you could ever wish for." she added.

With a little smirk Quinty listened to him. She nodded and then she opened her backpack. She took out the jar with black pearls, pitch black. There were about 10 pearls in the jar in different sizes. She showed him the jar "something like this?" she asked.

His smile turned into a grin as he gave her the bag of bits "I'll take two please." He says as he waits for her to hand them over. As he does, he looks to the sky "There's definitely a storm coming" as he makes that remark, the air turned arid and there was a musty, metallic smell as well.

Quinty smiled and accepted the bag of bits. then she took the two biggest and most beautifull bits out of the jar. she put them in a little box witha soft coating on the inside so that the pearls wouldn't get damaged. then she looked up at the sky, the typical smell of a storm had filled the air "yea, defenitly a storm. probably gonna strike witin 10 to 30 minutes" she said, she gained her knowledge about the weather at the sea where you could see rain and storm comming over the water. her guesses were quite acurate most of the time.

Clockwork smiles as he takes the boxed pearls "Thank you, my client will be very happy about these" he says then nods his head "Just wonderful, well food is going to have to wait" he says as his stomach growls "Shut it stomach" he then blushes "S-sorry, the benefits of being alone is you can talk to yourself" he says a little "M<y workshop is at least 15 to 20 minutes away" he sighs as he puts the box into his bag and there was a loud rumble above them and people started trying to find shelter. He then chose then to finally come out of his shell "there's a cafe just up the road, if you'd join me for shelter"

Quinty chuckled when he talked to his stomach but didn't say anything about it and pretended not to have heard it. then the clouds started to rumble agresively, this was defenitly gonna be a heavy storm. Quinty sighed "that would mean I'd have to pack my stuff again, no way I can leave this alone." she said "I'll be fine, you go. I don't melt from a little bit of water" she said.

He smiles "Well if you insist, but if you change your mind, ask the waiter for Clockwork, he'll take you to me" he says before smiling one last time and begun to walk towards the cafe. Before he enters, he looks at the mare and shakes his head, he then realized that there were some mannerisms about her that reminded him of well..himself. He then shakes his head again to clear it and walked into the cafe, taking his usual seat near the back and ordering his usual hot food and milkshake.

Quinty looked at the stallion, who she assumed his name was clockwork, as he entered the caffee. strange, he wasn't as annoying as other people she had met.

with the sky getting darker and darker Quinty slowly got more nervous, she played with the pearl at the end of the tiny braid in her hair. it was then that she felt the first raindrop on her nose. she looked up and felt more on her face. then, suddenly, the clouds appeard to break open and it started raining really hard. the little roof that was build over her stand didn't provide enough protection and the caffee at the oposide of the road seemed inviting, and concidering there were no more customers she packed up her stuff and walked to the caffee.

when she got inside she asked the waiter for clockwork, as he had instruckted her and the waiter brought her to his table.

Cockwork looks up from his book he always carried with him and smiles softly "Decided to join me after all? Well, take a seat and make your order, I'll shout you" he says as he hails the waiter "Oh and if you're into meat, I suggest either the Teriyaki chicken, honey lemon chicken, sweet and sour pork or king prawns with pesto sauce" he suggests and waits for her to sit down "Now, I keep forgetting my manners, time for a proper introduction" he says and smiles softly "I'm Clockwork, your 'friendly' neighborhood clockmaker and recluse" he says with a slight chuckle "a pleasure"

Quinty smiled "well, the weather decided it more or less" she said as she combed her wet hair with her fingers. then she looks at the menu "honestly, I don't eat meat that often, I usually eat fish. so, whatever you think is best" she said with a little smile. 

quinty listened to clockworks introduction and smiled, "well, nice to meet you, mr friendly neighboohood clockmaker and recluse" she said "my name is Quinty Waves, call me Quinty. I live alone by the sea and I find pearls for a living." she said.

"Pleasure is mine Quinty, a real pleasure to meet the mare who saved more than just my job, lets just say that my client..he has a lot of influence in Manehatten" he says and smils "Well if you eat fish, then the smoked salmon is quite good, and I'm surprised you weren't getting  more customers,the pearls you brought to sell, they're the best I've seen, especially these black ones, it's not easy to get River Krust pearls"

Quinty smiled and nodded "I'm glad I could help" she simply said. "and I don't want fish, I eat plenty of it at home. and no one ever beats my own smoked salmon" she said with a smirk. then she looked outside, to her stand that was standing alone in the rain now "yea, I wonder too. my pearls are the best of all equestria. and those River Krust pearls aren't easy to get indeed, you gotta be real carefull and work quickly. otherwise it'll be your last pearl"

He smiles as he takes his goggles off of his forehead to clean them "well then I suggest either the pork or chicken with the fried rice" he says as he breathes on his goggles and wipes them off "and I just want you to know, while I say a pleasure to everyone, with you..I actually mean it. For once, when I look at another pony..I don't get reminded of the reason why I became a recluse" he says and smiles somewhat "and you are right, I half think that my client was expecting me to go hunting for the pearls myself and hoped I get killed, then of course hew wouldn't get his clock" he laughs "I swear, nobles can be quite dumb sometimes"

"chicken sounds good" she says. and then she lookes at clockwork "ehm... thank you I guess." she said, a bit lost because she didn't know exactly how to react to his coment about it being a pleasure to meet her. she rarely ever knew how to react to anything actually but this was totally strange to her. luckily he started about something else "well, too bad for him since you'll be here to tell the tale. as long as you don't blow yourself up" she said with a nod to his mechanical arm and eye.

He chuckles "Oh you noticed eh? Guess they are pretty out there, well long story short, I was still pretty young and was experimenting with my clockwork, I wound a string to tight and well, the whole thing kinda exploded, taking my arm and eye with it" he says with a chuckle "I think I was about fifteen or sixteen back then" he then rubs the back of his neck "Yeah, I'm kind of stubborn like that, I refuse to die, I'm still pretty young and still have so much to explore and live for":

Quinty nodded "stuborness is a good thing, show the forces of nature who you are and spit in their face if they try to overthrow you. or, you know, hide in a caffee like I do now. but if you can't do anything else, show that you're not scared of them." she said "and I guess you already did that, it must have been a terrible accident." she went quiet, thinking of how awefull it must have been, especially since he was only a little bit younger as she was when that happened, since he said he was fiveteen or sixteen and she was seventeen and a half right now. she couldn't imagine what she would do if anything like that happened to her.

He nods "It was pretty terrible, yes, but luckily my mother who is a nurse was home at the time and was able to make sure I didn't loose too much blood, then I started studying about biology and the such and how I could get these limbs to work into my nervous system, needless the say, my eye was the hardest to do, but well worth it, if not, I wouldn't be able to see a pretty, young mare as well as I can without it" he says then blushes "D-did I just..I'm sorry I uhm.." he rubs the back of his neck, as he does a simple pendant swung around with the motions, the locket opened and f Quinty saw, she could see a picture of a rather handsome dark brown stallion in a Naval officer's uniform.

"well, it's good that you got them to work. and you studied biology aswell? my mom used to be a biologist, or actually a marinologist, she studied the sea and such. and... wait, what?" she stopped when he said something about a pretty, young girl "shut up..." she said in a grumpy way and she kicked him under the table, not too hard but with the boots she was wearing it sure hurt a bit. 

then her eye caught the pendant, with a picture in it. she pointed at it "who's that?" she asked.

Lunar's Revenge and one of the very few ponies the Princesses trust enough to make him their personal guard" he says as he wipes a tear away "I don't get to see him very often,m but when he comes to Manehatten for shore leave or comes her with the Princesses, the time we have together, I always cherish"

Quinty rolled her eyes and then the listened to Clockwork who told her about his dad "wow, that's pretty sad, that you don't see him often" she said, and then she saw that Clockwork wiped away a tear, she didn't know what to do exactly since she wasn't used to crying people. Her parents, the only people she really knew, never cried, neither did she herself. Then she saw a napkin and handed it to him, that's what you did when someone cried right? You gave them something to dry their eyes. At least, that's what she thought you had to do.

Quinty thanked the waiter too. Then she took a bite of her food, it was good! She looked at clockwork "tell you about myself? There is not much to tell. I'm just a girl who likes surfing and swiming and everything with the sea. But that doesn't really make a living so I sell pearls sometimes. I live in the west of equestria, far away from all towns in a lonely house on the top of a cliff, it's nice to live there, very quiet. Not many people around" she said. Why she said all of that she didn't know, she was usually very reserved towards other people.
