Does it seem there's a split between the Mane six?

I feel like Rainbow Dash, Pinkie Pie, and Twilight are more well known and more vital to the series than Rarity, Applejack, and Fluttershy.

For reference, the former 3 actually have an impact on Ponyville/Equestria. Twilight is a fucking Princess, Rainbow Dash controls the weather, and Pinkie Pie preserves happiness.

The other three seem to be more about their own personal interests.

RD controlling the weather isn't that big a deal, plenty of other Pegasi can do that. She's good at it but she's just one mare. Pretty sure she doesn't even do that anymore either, she's a Wonderbolt now, so why do her old job as a weather pony still? Unless they really need her help I suppose. Rarity also now runs three boutiques across Equestria, and Fluttershy is now running an animal shelter that all animals are welcome to.

Does it really matter though? Their importance to Equestria in universe doesn't impact their importance to the series in real life. They all have their own interests and goals, and not all of them are equally big, that's fine, that doesn't lessen their importance.

Could be because Twi, Dash, and Pie are the face of marketing. Everything has those three's faces on it. Not so much with Applehorse, Animal hoarder, and Fashion horse

Adding to RareBase's comment, I'm sure AJ and her family play a large role in the agriculture of Ponyville. It's less exciting than being a princess or the 'preserv[ing] happiness', but still vital to the town's every day life!
