ManaMinori 4,149 July 27, 2017 Share July 27, 2017 (edited) Before legends of Starswirl the Bearded came to be in g4, Hasbro had a few predecessors of ponies in each generation, named Star Swirl. Curiously, though, across each gen, this pony was a mare, and even more curiously, an earth pony. In g4, Star Swirl is a very rare pony who is a toyline exclusive- but even though she’s an earth pony, her cutie mark depicts her as being magical in some way- with a star surrounded by smaller stars in the pattern of swirls. Same as in g3. G2 has her with swirls all over her body and no stars, and g1 has the cutie mark being a heart inside of a box. I’m very curious to know of this Star Swirl within g4 is in any way related to Starswirl the bearded, as both are elusive and rare- one within the toyline, and one within the show. If this earth pony mare Star Swirl were to appear in the show, do you think that there might be some confusion and misconception among Starswirl the Bearded fans, like Twilight? Do you think that Star Swirl would be the kind of mar who intentionally misleads ponies into thinking that she’s potentially related to the Great Starswirl the Bearded, or loathes that other ponies come to her, under that mindset, and wishes to get out from under the shadow of StarSwirl the Beaded’s lasting legacy? What feats do you think this Star Swirl could pull off, with a potentially magical symbolized cutiemark, in spite of her being an earth pony? Hierok 11,833 July 27, 2017 Share July 27, 2017 I think there is no relation between them and that it is just a coincidence that their names are almost the same. If I don't understand something or Interpret it wrong, I'm dutch. Sometimes I gamble for meanings of the words. And sometimes I write the wrong words, like week and weak for example. It's not really a coincidence per se. Larson has said in an interview that Hasbro had a list of names that were legally approved for pony names for minor characters, and he chose the name Starswirl for the character Twilight was dressed up as in Luna Eclipsed. Then he added the epithet "the Bearded". However he didn't know that Hasbro would be using that name specifically in the near future (or currently depending on how the script writing and toy making schedule overlap) for a female pony. So the name came from the same source, just used and developed differently between show and toy staff. Edited July 28, 2017 by Marimo
Foxy Socks 2,603 July 28, 2017 Share July 28, 2017 It looks like a coincidence, as the two aren't related in any other way. In wouldn't worry about it. My OC: https://mlpforums.com/page/roleplay-characters/_/foxy-socks-r9861
