Alternate universe: Dreamworks Animation/Paramount Pictures

I liked the movie, but due to poor advertising, little interest from Hasbro(only cares about toy sales) and Lionsgate's horrible record of releasing animated films...it's fun to imagine what could have been or almost was. I feel the MLP movie would have been a big hit had these things happened.

1. Equestria Girls never existed. Giving a less negative view from non fans.

2. Hasbro officially buys Dreamworks animation.

3. Hasbro buys out Paramount Pictures.

4. The MLP movie creators are allowed to recruit big time movie crew for sound mixing, editing, visual consultant and score(John Powell of How To Train Your Dragon trilogy and Kung Fu Panda will score the film while Daniel will write the songs)

5. Advertising goes all out thanks to promotion by paramount and tv executives.

6. The MLP show gets updated animation, still like the old but a tad more updated, and allowed(now that they are out of Canada) to bring in American tv voice actors.

7. Seven time Oscar winning Sound designer Gary Rydstorm joins the movie.

Facts: Hasbro came very close to buying Dreamworks Animation and is currently looking at Paramount for bigger deals and a potential buyout(with the way Paramount has been failing, it's not a surprise they are looking to devour it)

All other problems with the movie are secondary to its script. Too many new characters, pacing so rushed that no one really gets to stand out, weak sense of humor. What it needed was a completely different approach that wasn't so concerned with selling toys. I don't think Paramount or Dreamworks would've been of much help there.

That is a good point, but it deserved to make money and not disappoint..unlike the emoji movie(which despite being universally despised by critics and audiences, made a huge profit)
