I wouldn't hold your breath for substance with only 5 minutes an episode. TYT is just going to be something parents can put to distract their kids while they're busy. Think the best anyone can hope for is some good gags (which tbh Pony Life did not have very much of). What I do hope for is since the MYM "season" is essentially going to be less than the length of one Lord of the Rings installment that it is more serialized and dramatic than G4 with legit CG visuals. Definitely encouraged by G Berrow being the showrunner since she was one of the better character writers late in G4's life

Re the VA recasting, I've heard something about Canada requiring Canadian VAs if you're going to produce your show there, though I don't know where one would go to verify that. Anyway, from the vocal samples I've heard, they seem like good fits for the roles and would honestly probably be better at maintaining a "G4" vibe than the movie actors would. If they had originally been cast as the movie VAs I don't know if anyone would've complained.

Jim Miller has said the show was already wrapping up before the movie was released, so I don't think its box office performance was a real material effect (although perhaps the movie itself might have been if it was a particularly tumultuous production). The insane amount of concept art we've gotten for the G5 movie really shines a light on just how much of the process is throwing around random ideas and figuring out how to condense them into something coherent. In any event, I personally would be happy to see the M6 show up in something new again.

I will say I think it'll be to this G's advantage that it will be on Netflix. They won't be hampered by network time slots and commercial breaks and can make episodes as long as necessary to execute plots/morals. That was an issue that often held G4 back. Definitely looking forward to seeing more of these ponies.

It appears the "embargo" on movie reviews was lifted today, and reviews are starting to come in for the film https://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/my_little_pony_a_new_generation So far, four positives and no negative reviews. It's early, but I think it's safe to say film critics as a whole will like this better than the G4 movie.

I find all the complaining about the G4 characters' work being ruined pretty ridiculous. It's been a thousand years, nothing lasts forever. That was literally the moral of the penultimate episode. In order to have an engaging story, you need a conflict. That doesn't mean all the heroics of prior stories were for nothing.

New Movie Planned for 2021

Most movies don't have a boatload of information released until about six months prior to their release date, so I wouldn't get too anxious about the lack of info. That being said, COVID has shaken everything up so it's still very possible it could end up getting delayed, but many animated productions have been able to continue relatively unfazed since they can be done remotely and if things are still bad by September next year I'm pretty sure it'd just end up going to streaming. -

I was annoyed by the negative overreactions to the marketing early on, but if I'm being honest I wouldn't even bother with this if it didn't involve ponies. It doesn't make a lick of sense and isn't particularly funny even on a basic slapstick level. The occasions it is actually funny feel akin to a blind squirrel finding a nut. All the same I'm hopelessly hooked to tuning in every Sunday just cuz I need weekly cute right now with everything else in the world being so terrible.

Dash has good chemistry with just about everyone in the show, probably why she's shipped so much IMO, Spike and Rarity don't have any real chemistry. I suspect the writers had Spike canonically crush on her because that was the one they could most get away with in a kids show (especially since he doesn't interact as much with the CMCs or the more "youthful" M6 like Pinkie and Dash).

Not really sure what to make of this yet. First time watching it I felt a certain disappointment by the forced stories, yet I keep going back and rewatching them. I guess part of it is it's just nice to see the characters again, but there's also a lot of visual creativity on display (highlight for me being the "rainbow drops" to symbolize RD's triggers). It did take me a few eps to get into FIM as well, so I imagine I'll give it a few more chances. -
You know, with all the crappiness of the world at large right now, I would say this does have a pretty good reason to exist as a rare entertainment I can actually look forward to. TTG is an easy negative comparison to make, but it could just as well have a much more inspired brand of slapstick closer to Gumball, especially given it's being animated at the one of the studios involved with that show. Some of the gags on display in the teasers do indicate a more satirical tone.

You were deluding yourself if you thought the FIM finale was ever going to be the end of the mane 6. They're the most iconic characters the franchise has ever had and I expect they'll be playing a major role in G5 as well. From a brand preservation perspective, you don't just drop them all out of some vague "originality" aspiration. Sometimes sticking with the characters you've got is the right way to go in maintaining the entertainment value and popularity of a franchise.
