It effectively removes events of the show and forces someone to take control of a creature with all the powers we know it canonically has. Then we can truly see where things stand. With that test, griffins OC do indeed perform better that pegasi ones. Try it yourself. Would that make pegasi sad? I don't really care. They'd learn to deal with it just like the earth ponies did. Now, would I, with the power vested in me by H-Bro, leave them as lesser weather magic users? Yes. If it's MLP you don't need ponies to be powerful since it's slice of life meant for little girls. Magical friendship beams can solve everything in a matter of seconds. I wouldn't even bother with lore. If it was adventure meant for boys I'd use griffins and other cool creatures instead anyway I'm a little confused on what you meant by the oc test or how it proves that pegasi are inferior. Plus, there is that whole scene in the comics where the griffons are unable to stop a tornado. Then when then pegasi try to take it on, they succeed. Seems like strong pegasus magic to me. Overall this has been quite the fun dialogue. Exchanging head-canons is both entertaining and insightful. Who knows, maybe the season 10 comics will touch upon this subject. Ya never know. Also, I personally think pegasi and ponies in general are cooler than griffons. They could work just as well if not better in an adventure. I don't think that was weather magic but a magic of cooperation. A group of griffin OCs working together could easily do anything pegasi can cause they would no longer be restrained by the demands of friendship lesson plots. So just create a griffin OC and test him or her out

But in all seriousness, I guess the interpretation of that scene is left in the hands of each individual. My interpretation is that it's a show of the pegasi's weather magic. Eh, I'm good. Not really a fan of the griffins in the show, and not crazy about them in general. Plus, if I did make one, it would probably be kinda a jerk (like how we see Gilda and most other griffins). It would most likely be an antagonist to my protagonist pony OCs. Besides, in my head-canon pegasus weather magic is stronger than griffin weather magic (if they even have it). So overall, the OC test comes down to head-canons (wow I am saying that word a lot XD). Not if you're doing it strictly by what can be permitted by canon, and inside canon, RD needed the help of Gilda to escape the windy grotto with the Arimasp skull. That cat bird was strong enough to carry two horses up a vertical wall while ignoring harsh winds that had grounded one of the best flyers in all Equestrian. Granted, she did that with her claws. But yes, one can always have a headcanon. You can also always say that this "magic" of yours only works in Equestria. It's a plug and play kind of magic Edited September 4, 2020 by Goat-kun law & order

It's a plug and play kind of magic Just re-watched the scene, and it looks like Gilda couldn't fly in the ravine either. She probably would've ran into the same problem that RD had. She had to use her claws to climb in and out of it. Claws are a useful part of a griffon that pegasi don't have. Therefor its one of their advantages over pegasi. It's a big reason that I say that griffons generally can't control weather. Just evens the playing field up. This has been a fun convo though. It's Neat to find out what others think on the subject of Non-pony magic. Indeed, neither RD nor Gilda have weather magic, at least not weather magic that can compete with nature; however, griffins seem like they can at least persevere in such harsh weather conditions. Anyhow, non-pones got the shit end of the stick. That includes dragons and griffins, but at least they have it better than cows and sheep since they got predominantly used as chew toys for friendship lessons but weren't put into camps. I find this unacceptable, not due to some political crap, but cause it makes your world a boring place. If you have magical talking animals, then have all of them as magical talking animals. It's always good to have variety. This is the way. I have spoken.
