Nope, if you subscribe, you automatically make a donation each month. When you donate (not subscribe) you just make one donation :3

Subscription = recurring donation. Considering that most of our costs recur on a monthly, semi-annual, or annual basis, we prefer that people sign up for recurring subscriptions so that we get a more consistent stream of income. The more we collect from subscriptions, the lesser the chance that we'll get a "dry month" during which we didn't get enough donations to pay a bill.

 

I'm using the word subscription to encourage people to get subscriptions instead of making a one-time donation, and also because "subscription" is the generally accepted term for a recurring payment. "Recurring donation" is a longer term that people will be less accustomed to.
