Six thieves steal The elements of harmony, and are using them to power various machines that, if left running for enough time, has the power to release discord from his stony prison.

They also kidnap the mane six, so the ponies have no way to use the elements against them.

Heroes are needed.

A small light blue portal appears somewhat near the town of Ponyville, carefully positioned out of view from the townsfolk (so, obviously not right next to the town, but perhaps behind some hill or similar thing). Out of the portal comes a white-and-purple unicorn. The portal closes behind her.

She looks around. It looks like not much has changed. She walks atop a hill to get a good view of the town. It has been quite some time since she has been here, hasn’t it? Of course, she is not here just to visit home. She has a job to do here.

Without further delay, the unicorn heads toward the town. All she has been told is that something bad has happened or is about to happen. Finding out what it is… that is up to her.

The world seemed perfectly normal... but you could sense something shifting- as if the natural balance of the world was moving out of balance. There seemed to be spots where the dimensional boundaries grew dim... almost disappearing. Something happened that threw the world out of balance. Even from what you could see from the hill, the few ponies that were out were tense.

Starshift looks around. “It may be just me…” she thinks, “but it almost feels like I’m still in a portal, in some small way. Or at least near one. It’s really faint, though.”

Meanwhile, back at the Interdimensional Protection Agency HQ:

“That used up far less energy than it should have,” Emma (an ancient spider dragon currently in the form of a human) says, looking at the console with great concern.

“Well, some dimensions are more permeable to interdimensional travel than others,” Miriam (a 6' tall bipedal dog plush) said.

“Yes, but I remember it was not that easy the last time. It’s a bad sign. Something may be threatening the very fabric of the dimension’s existence.”

“Yes, but there are several other things that it could also be that are much less severe than that. Though there is still that risk.” Miriam thinks on the matter for a moment. “Should we withdraw Starshift and send in a full operative?”

“No. We cannot coddle her. We would not even contemplate sending her on any mission if we did not think her capable of dealing with threats of this magnitude.”

Miriam nods. “Very well.”

Starshift heads into town. People here seem so very nervous. “Excuse me,” she asks the first non-busy person she sees, “It’s been a while since I’ve been here. Do you know what’s going on here?”

"Well, for some reason, it feels... wrong. Like.... like... like someone walking over my grave, you know?" said Colgate, smiling nervously. "At any rate, I personally feel like the trip the Elements made is the reason, but... I don't know why."

Periodic table? Fire, water, earth and wind? Oh wait, she’s talking about the elements of harmony. Starshift has been out of this dimension way too long, hasn’t she?

“The trip the elements made?” Starshift repeats, confused.

Breech was standing next to a tree not far from the Everfree forest when he observed the blue glow of magic and purple and white unicorn stepping out of it. He enjoyed the seclusion the forest offered and took immidiate interest in this new pony. She seemed to be wary of drawing attention to herself and appered to glance around to make sure nopony saw her exit the portal, as he recognized the magic from. She had little chance of noticing him however, he noted, his life as an assassin taught him how to never be seen...

"Well, almost never..." Breech checked himself, he allowed his pride to expose him once before, he would not make the same mistake twice.

Refocusing his attention on the unicorn, he mused the possibility that she could be responsible for the disturbances he sensed in the area. "No, if she had cause this... whatever it is, she wouldn't return without concealing herself more effectively than this," Breech argued to himself, "but perhaps she might know something about it" he concluded, as he began following the unicorn to watch what she did.

Listening to the conversation she began with another pony, Breech took interest in the "trip the Elements made" and, deciding it appropriate, approached to inquire the issue as the unicorn did the same.

"Yeah... The Princess asked for them to come to Canterlot, preferably to balance out the world. If they succeeded, the world hasn't balanced out yet. But either way, they haven't come back yet." Colgate said. "Now I'm sorry, but i have to go.." She wandered off through the town square.

It sounds to her like Canterlot is an ideal place to start investigating, then. “Thank you for the information,” Starshift says politely.

She sighs. Canterlot is not too far, she knows, but having to travel there from here is still an inconvenience and delay. Nonetheless, she knows that sometimes clues have a tendency to find the seeker by chance. Because of the possibility of finding clues on the way that she would not otherwise, she decides to go there the old-fashioned way. However, she decides that reducing her own weight might make her better able to get there quickly.

She briefly considers finding some sort of cover before doing this. However, she decides that she may as well do it in the open. If she tries to keep her more unusual types of magic a secret, it will be too great of a hindrance to her saving the world. No, better to just try not to worry about any stares she gets. After all, the other operatives tend not to worry too much about it.

Starshift begins chanting arcane words while slowly raising a front hoof into the air. A few glowing white feathers appear around her before disappearing. Gravity now affects her only half as much as it did before. With less weight to move around, dashing to Canterlot shouldn’t be as much problem, though she may occasionally still need to stop and rest for a moment.

The first time you get winded, the skies start to turn grey. The cloud pattern indicates that there's a storm moving in. You see a nearby cave, with no pony universe life forms inside. But the universal rift was extremely thin here.

She looks at the cave, hesitant; perhaps more like cautiously optimistic. This could be a bad idea. Alternatively, perhaps, it could be just the sort of clue she is looking for.

Starshift enters the cave, listening and looking carefully for anything out-of-the-ordinary.

Breech watched with slight surprise,as the strange unicorn dashed off, "If only I were this hard to notice back then..." Breech thought to himself about his failure, a bit annoyed by how much it was affecting him today. With maps he'd studied in the past and having heard the villager mention Canterlot, it wasn't hard to estimate where she was going, but she was moving quickly. Breech had doubts he would catch up to her but still wished to start his own investigation in Canterlot being familliar with country around him breech began teleporting himself to landmarks he had been to and other identifiable spots he could see from a distance, taking breaks to meditate and focus on recovering from his form of travel. After teleporting for a while Breech felt a stronger disturbance and began making his way to investigate, eventually he used a large stone next to a cave as his landmark he felt like he was standing at the edge of an abyss despite the solid ground around him. His unease was only increased as he saw the same unicorn from earlier. "It could be a coincidence, caves made ideal places for shelter, but theres more to this," Breech thought to himself, the unicorn seemed as oblivious to his pressence as earlier. Despite his preferences, Breech decided it best to make allies if he could, "If shes a friend, it's more beneficial to find out now, and if shes a foe... my blades have never failed before," he told himself as he moved to approach the unicorn, making certain she wouldn't miss his presence again. "Excuse me," Breech said as unabruptly as he could, "I saw you asking about the disturbances earlier in Ponyville, I was on my way to Canterlot when I noticed you here, you seem to be investigating the disturbances, and I'd like to offer my help."

Breech waited for her response, prepared as best he could for whatever would happen next.

The storm breaks outside, just as Breech enters the cave. It's a downpour along the lines of, If you step outside you get bruises from the heavy rain and hail. The disturbance gets worse deeper in the cave, and in a certain part of it, the dimensional boundary disappears.

Confident the Unicorn's reaction was genuine and she wasn't a threat, Breech relaxed a bit, but remained wary of his surroundings.

"I agree, I used teleportation to get here and felt like I was standing on a cliff when I approached the cave," Breech began, "As I said, I noticed you back in Ponyville, but also I saw that portal you used outside of the town and I was standing nearby when you used that spell beofre running off. I'm not going pry about the details of that, but it seems like you might know something about these disturbances and I'd appreciate anything you can offer..."

“I am only supposed to tell others this on a need-to-know basis and I fear that this information may soon become pertinent,” Starshift says. She sighs, hesitant to speak that which she is not normally supposed to tell. “There are other dimensions. I have been to some of them and met people from those dimensions, which is why I have forms of magic not native to this dimension. You need to know this because the dimensional boundaries are weakening in places, which is probably most if not all of the reason for the on-edge feeling everyone is getting. It’s especially weak here. So, you need to be ready for anything here.”

Breech looked at her for momment, taking in all that she had just told him. "I see," he began, "I must admit, under any other circumstances, I'd think you were crazy but every thing else around seems pretty unusual as well. Well, I take it you don't know much more than you just told me so I guess we won't figure it out just stading here." After moment he realized a few precautions that she might not have set up and asked, "Do you need help seeing in the dark? I know a spell or two that could grant you vision in the caves so we can avoid using any light that could alert anything unfriendly a signal that we're comming."

“Thanks. That would help,” Starshift says. It is certainly a lot better than the Stardust spell she thought she would need to use, which has the potential for sensory overload.

Breech used his enchanment of both himself and Starshift as well another to muffle their hoofsteps. "If we should encounter anything aggressive, how do you fight? I figure it would be best to find ways to combine our tactics now, as opposed to during combat," Breech asked as he used another enchantment on himself to make a false target that followed behind him while in his real position, he was a scarcely visible blur, effectivly invisible to anyone trying to see him from a distacne.

“I have a spell called Ghost Flare that weakens enemies from afar. At least if it hits. That’s usually my strategy. It’s a good subdual tactic, but if I need a more permanent solution to the problem, I can always use my horn once the enemy too weakened to move.” She notices the bones, cobwebs, et cetera. “I cannot say for certain, but this looks a lot like sorrowsworn live here. I don’t know a great deal about them, but I know that they’re not from this dimension and they hunt by pulse. That said, except for my Antiflow spell, which stops my heart beating for a short while, stealth may not be an option.”

"Why didn't I take the stupid train?" Ace High muttered bitterly to himself. He was tired, wet, cold, and above all, lost. "There's no way I'm going to get to the pub in this weather. I've got to get out of this storm." During a quick scan of the area, his eye caught sight of a mouth to a cave. He approached it, cautious to not alert any inhabitants. He heard a voice, in the middle of a speech describing some sort of spell. Eager to get out of this rain, he decided to investigate. "Hello? Anyone in there?"

"Oh, sorry." Ace enters the cave, grateful to be out of the rain. He scans the cave, quickly picking out the bones, causing his eyes to widen in fear. He swallows hard, and puts on his best brave face. "Yes, I can see that. Well, is there anything I can do to help?" he says in a whisper.

"Well other than bait I'm not sure what you can do," Breech said disturbingly dryly, catching the reactions of the other two he added, "I'm kidding around. But seriously, are you any good in combat? Anything you can bring to the table is welcomed." Turning back to Starshift, "I might have a spell that could help if they hunt by pulse, unless they can detect magic in a similar fashion. I know a trick to create clones. They're really more like a bubble of telekinetic energy that can mimic methods of attack I use, but they still can be useful, though when I say bubble I mean any damage they take will break the spell and effectivly kill them."

"I've got an idea for a tactic, I can use my spells to dodge distract enemies, hopefully make them chase me while you shoot spells at them," he told Starshift, then turning his attention to the newcomer, "anything you could add... um... I'm sorry we haven't even been introduced, I'm Breech, and this is Starshift, what's your name?"
