Actually, it is kinda funny that we've never seen a male alicorn, besides that one Princess Big Mac joke in Do Princesses Dream of Magic Sheep. I've said it on here before but stallions so deserved to get more screen time in G4, Shining Armor especially.

I still don't understand why only princesses can be alicorns, meanwhile princes like Blueblood and Shining Armor are plain unicorns. Maybe Hasbro wanted to show some 'girl power' by making only princesses having a special species.

I didn't meant it's canon only princesses can be alicorns, but that's what have been shown so far, so I said that Hasbro wanted the princesses to look more special than other ponies, no wonder why Twilight became one just right after receiving her wings, as said by Celestia she's a princess now.

Big Mac had a dream, but my guess is that he wished to be overpowered and more special than just a big man from the farm. The joke overall was about magical girls, and at least in Equestria, princess are equally the magical girls from animes

My headcanon is that just Mares can really become alicorns, maybe Mare unicorns only, due to some unknown universal divine rule, I don't know, I feel that maybe female pones have some superiority over stallions that cannot be explained (has nothing to do with girl power or something, just a lore thing), with them being spiritually stronger or something that can lead them to become Alicorns, a trait that only they have, just as in real life only women can get pregnant, generate milk, etc, a genetic thing, It's what I think, just some crazy idea I have  in reality I think it's just Hasbro trying to sell more toys and believing that it's not worth to do the same with Stallions
