Why Sunny's Not a Permanent Alicorn in G5 (ToonTime! Theory)

A YouTuber called ToonTime! did an interesting video on why she thinks Sunny can only become an alicorn temporarily.

I honestly quite like how Sunny isn't a permanent alicorn. Not only is her only being able to be one at certain times a balanced reward for uniting all of Equestria, but it allows her to not have to suffer the curses of immortality, watching every pony who's not an alicorn grow old and die. However, what do you think?

I agree, it seems to me that for the ancient alicorns, *forever* was a curse. Imagine everything they remember falling apart before their eyes. I don't think that's a happy experience.

For me it's more simple than that, I believe that to become an Alicorn, it's simple needed for another Alicorn to transform someone into one, I actually even believe that a Alicorn can revert other Alicorn back into a unicorn/pegasus/earth pony, but that is already pure headcanon of mine.

As for Sunny, I have no idea why she has "temporary" or a partial manifestation of Alicorn powers, I believe that is related to how the development of a "Transformed Alicorn" works, you can't become a Alicorn just because you want, it needs to be earned, just like it was with Twilight, and Twilight became a permanent one because Celestia (a Natural Born Alicorn) was there transform her into one.

Sunny already earned that power, now she just needs to find a Alicorn to transform her into a true Alicorn, while it doesn't happens, she can just manifest part of that power.

I was looking at it as the magic of Equestria giving her a temporary boost, or showing her she has potential to become so much more than she is. 

I could also see Twilight knowing the cost and burdens becoming a full alicorn has on a pony. So just before retiring she goes to Celestia and Luna and asks if there's another way. Then during that time we get the reason she had to store magic away for the ponies all together. Feeling the pain and sadness she as she had to take something that made so many ponies special, she found the solution and made sure the next pony to become an alicorn had to bring all ponies of Equestria together in friendship first. 

I really don't know but seeing as Twi is the princess of friendship you would think she had a failsafe in mind for the future of all ponies.

I wonder whether the G5 staff wanted to use the "Magical Girl" formula for Sunny? If so then it hasn't been applied very well or consistently, at least in my own opinion.

FiM was inspired by "magical girl" anime. I have no clue how someone could watch Equestria Girls and tell me it's not inspired by "magical girl" shows. Regardless, I strongly doubt the "formula" they've always used was the inspiration behind Sunny being half-alicorn. It's far more likely they just wanted to do something new with alicorns, thus the inclusion of Skyros.

Maybe, but to me Sunny's temporary transformations are very "magical girl". And, yes, EQG did it too.

I beg your finest pardon, but Celestia never did turn Twilight into an alicorn. This is an understandably, yer very common misconception.

Have you seen the ending to mlp G4? I'm just now rewatching it all since last year during school and i run into pictures of the end of the last episode that CLEARLY show twilight as an alicorn. After twilight completely understand friendship celestia turns her into a full alicorn

I assume you meant "the ending of Season 3 to mlp G4". theponytheoristMM seems to be confusing head-canon with facts. They seem believe that Twilight would have become an Alicorn even if Celestia was not present. I don't think that would have been the case.

this is a very commom misconception in the g4 fandom that Celestia turned Twiilight into an alicorn, The this about this is many do not bother to look at the details before they make the assumption. If you go back and look at MMC, you can clearly see that the magic that leaves Twilight is purple and comes out of her chest- were her heart would be. She turns herself into an alicorn. Celestia's horn never once glows to turn Twilight in to an alicorn herself. Yes, Celestia herself was grooming Twilight for the role of becoming a Princess, and her successor, but she never turned her into an alicorn.
