Could This Be the Difference Between the First Two Seasons and the Rest of the Series?

As I've been rewatching MLP (and watching the later seasons for the first time) I've noticed a pretty clear difference between seasons 1 and 2 compared to the rest of the series. It seems that everything after season 2 is a lot more "high concept" and tends to focus on the world of Equestria beyond simple Ponyville life whereas the first two seasons tend to be simple slice of life affairs. I'm not saying that either style is better or worse, even though I personally prefer the first two seasons, but it could definitely be a reason why some people noticed a change around the season 3 mark.

Lauren Faust stepped back as executive producer and acted as a consulting producer after the first season and left all together after the second, the change in themes/direction Is due in big part to the change of director  which can become a pretty heated topic as many strong opinions on the matter appear to exist.

I've noticed that. While I don't think the show is any better or worse before Faust I do think it's very different, so I can see why there would be mixed opinions. That said though, I'd kind of glad that the show did change to radically since I'm sure if the same formula was carried from season 1 right to the end then things would have become stagenent. And besides, season 1 and 2 are still there and excellent ^ ^

In my opinion the show started to feel different around season 5. Ever since Twilight’s library was destroyed it feels like the show is more foucsed on other ponies’ problems instead of the main 6/Spike/CMCs.
