Dragon Quest that is.  Which again is the fantasy based RPG, had character designs by Akira Toriyama and originally localized as Dragon Warrior.

Just curious.  The S2 episode titled well Dragon Quest even factoring in the leader of their race as Dragonlord prompts me to consider it.

But could easily just be a coincidence.  Anyone of staff mention being fans?  Just for the fun of it so that I could add trivia facts of MLP on the Dragon Quest wiki.😁

I think it's possible some of the staff are fans as far as animators are concerned, as they've been able to sneak plenty of video game references throughout the show(Bioshock, Zelda, MGS, Sonic, etc.). Whether that extends to the writing crew or not I'm not sure, most don't seem like the video game playing type, despite the obviousness of just taking the same name and using it for the title, I feel like someone over there should have caught that

Though if it is true, it make the decision to change "Reading Rainbow" into "Read it and Weep" more disappointing
