Nothing wrong with the older generations! They had a whole different appeal and storytelling. Definitely fun to watch some of it, I grew up with VHS recordings of G1.

I enjoy the older ones as well, Although G4 got me into MLP in the first place I found myself being interested in the ones that came before G4's time. It's interesting to me that those mlp shows were somebodies childhood. I wonder how they felt when the new Gen's came out, more certainly did they feel stronger, or did they not care and embrace the change... We may (never) know... but I bet we do.
