My Little Pony Convention Essentials

Since my projects are reaching their success little by little... As far as I know there wasn't any MLP con in Spain since 2017.

Iv'e never been to a MLP convention so I don't know what are the must, but if things go right maybe I can start the project of a new convention in Barcelona.

(This is for the future you know... Sometimes I have Crazy Ideas and I'm not aware of how unfeasible they are).

What are the essentials that a MLP convention MUST have?

I haven't been to any pony cons, but I have been to like... I think around 10-ish non pony cons. I think the most important thing for a convention is to have a reason for people to come to it.

For me, that's friends, a good vendor hall, and members of the community that I want to meet. Getting artists and people who love the show to show up, and advertise that they're going will get you way, way more traction and eyes on your project than you'd ever get on your own.

For other people, they would prefer panels, famous bronies or people who worked on the show, or events. Any local VAs that worked on the show, or anyone who's willing to travel would be a huge draw.

A con I'm going to next year drew me in with their promise of a 24/7 convention, something to do, somewhere, at all hours. Parties, shows, the vendor hall, board game and video game rooms, whatever. It's maybe not possible for a first time smaller con, but having as many things planned as possible will help people want to come, and to come BACK next time.

I think a big big thing that a lot of cons are adding that is SUPER helpful is a quiet room, where you can go, sit and decompress, and recharge in a low stimulation, usually low light level, low noise environment, so I would recommend having one of those.

Lastly, panels are a must, you need to have panels. You can get creative with the topics, or look at past cons to see what they did, but having a large variety of panels will make more people want to show up and participate.

Conventions are really, really hard to plan, and you need a lot of help from the community. I think your first move is to start making connections locally and try and finding out how interested people are, and who's willing to help out, and expect to pay for a lot of it out of pocket. Most conventions don't really make money, especially not at first.

Thanks for the advice! One thing is starting a Chinese Chess Club and other thing is starting a con... The Spanish bronies seem to be very "quiet" now. So, probably is not a good Idea...

For Pony Conventions, I think knowing someone else that's going would be the biggest draw for me. Along with the vendors, guests, and events the convention might have, because you do need something to do. Making sure that stuff is easy to find on a website for prospective convention goers would be a pretty important thing to include imo.

But yeah, I'd be way more likely to go to a convention or event if I knew someone else that was going, even if we were only acquaintances. Going to one on my own without knowing a single soul just seems very intimidating.
