Brony Moments

What are those moments that only happen to you because you're a brony?

For example, just now, I was doing some cooking and hosting general house stuff which involved working on the outside of the house a bit. While I was doing that, I was listening to some restrained pony... but on a youtube playlist... and it becomes some of the most girly-boppy pony stuff I've ever heard :P

As I'm beavering away I notice my neighbours car parked with the engine running. And I think 'But that's okay because the windows will muffle the sound'. So... they roll past with the windows friggin open and they must have been listening to a good portion of things like this, except even more boppy...

Under my real name, I don't make it well known that I like My Little Pony, as I am quite aware of the harassment people get for liking this stuff, especially if adults, but children sometimes get bullied for saying they like this as well, and there have been several cases of that occurring.

I'm shy of my MLP G4 fan fiction which is why I did not use my real name in that. But my reincarnated self in that fantasy world, is Dawnshine Wonder, a Pegasi in alternate timeline Equestria.

I have not yet had a moment in my life where this became a problem, I do have a friend who has been picked on for saying she liked MLP though.

There was this one time I was talking to someone on Discord and I told them that I like MLP, because I knew they wouldn't judge me. They didn't judge me and were chill with it. However, they said that I was yapping to them about MLP in the general channel of a server that my irl friends were in, and uhhhh...............they almost found out. I had to play EXTREMELY dumb (I pretended that I didn't even know what the MLP abbreviation meant) just to avoid it, and even to this day they joke about how I like MLP, and I act like I'm joking as well while every single alarm in my brain goes off.

That is exactly what I mean, we cannot be open about our love for MLP because of people making judgments about us. They would call us weak, childish, losers etc, some MLP fans get called a lot worse. I know my friends would not do it but what about some of their friends whom I don't know? or family members?

it's almost like simply because we are adults, we are being pressured into liking media that glorifies violence. And while I generally go for the action packed media compared to slice of life, there are some cute types of media I do watch and MLP FIM is one of them. Furthermore, it's a show that depicts equine citizens who are generally nicer than people in real life. Real life humans keep promoting war and division. MLP fans complain about Diamond Tiara for bullying Ponies, but there are millions of people like her in real life and much worse.

I know right??!?!?!!??! I used to like action movies and all, but when I discovered MLP, I realized that violence wasn't satisfying me and I don't prefer it as a source of entertainment. Ever since then, I prefer the G4 and G5 movies over practically any other movie - Marvel, DC, you name it.

I like MLP as a way to escape reality, since, if we're being honest, reality has become a pretty brutal place to live in. You're judged for liking TV shows, you're supposed to prefer bullying and being tough and competition and all. Sometimes I wish we could just go back to that life we all had when we were toddlers, when everyone was nice like in MLP

Fluttershy in MLP FIM is also a good example that it is okay to be feminine, it is okay to be sensitive and show feelings for others.

She does get annoyed by Pinkie Pie sometimes admittedly, but most of the time she accepts Pinkie Pie for who she is as a friend, and does not judge her despite her hyperactive and child-like behaviour which could be seen as annoying to some people, Fluttershy knows deep down, Pinkie Pie truly cares about her friends and wants to make them happy.

I don't just use the show as a form of escape although I do have the complete collection of My Little Pony Friendship is Magic on DVD seasons 1 to 9. I have been working on a fan fiction where souls get reincarnated into Equestria alternate reality MLP FIM as Ponies, from another species sometimes, and I fantasized about being one of them who got reborn as a Pegasi, though I know it will never happen. Why would I wish for something like this? Equestria is a place that cultivates mercy and caring in a way that our world never does. I would like my personality to be like Fluttershy's, gentle and sweet, I even daydream about wearing flower crowns with her, not for romance, only to show appreciation of friendship, if I could be in that fictional world I would ask her if she wish to do that, if she did not, that would be okay too, all I ask is to be cared for and not shamed for gentleness, I don't want to be an aggressive brute that makes others lives miserable.

Even in the case of bullying, our world sucks when it comes to that as despite how common it is, responses to it are ineffective.

At least in the world of MLP FIM, Princess Twilight made an effort to reforming Starlight Glimmer, who if she did not, she would have continued to keep Ponies in her gulag system, miserable and without freedom of individuality and to share their talents and creativity, instead of being forced into roles against their will by a dictator who just wants control.

Effort is made to end oppression in that fictional world, where as in the real world, oppression appears to be getting worse.

I’m a sensitive soul myself, that’s another reason why I think I relate to Fluttershy.

MLP FIM had a positive affect on me, and a friend who recommended the show to me. Helped me let go of my ego and embrace femininity, and when I did that, I treated people better and with more respect, over time I became more patient with people even if they were rude to me. And that did not make me weaker, it made me stronger, emotionally. While I still complain about things from time to time, responding with hateful comments is not helpful.

FiM also had a positive effect on me, although the friend who recommended it didn't feel the same way; she simply watched it as a child, and she sat me down and made me watch the first two epsiodes of season 1 just for fun. After watching it, I felt like I became more sensitive. I started valuing relationships more and treating people with more respect as well, especially my peers. I've always thought of Rainbow Dash as my favorite because of her passion for flying and my interest in aviation, but I guess Fluttershy better represents me as a person. Maybe I do relate with Fluttershy after all :D

Going back to the original topic of this thread, I had another brony moment on the day before yesterday: explaining why I like MLP to someone who would judge me. Although I do my research on a person and analyze their behavior for weeks (sometimes months) before I decide to tell them, I went out of my comfort zone and ended up telling a friend who initially judged me. I explained how G4 was designed to appeal to kids as well as their parents, which is why doofuses like me enjoyed it. Shockingly, he went from judging me to actually understanding, and this weekend we're watching the G5 movie :yay:

It's brave to like something even when you know you will have to deal with discrimination.

Though I don't make it well known I like My Little Pony Friendship is Magic under my real name, nor do I do that with my fan fiction, I use fake names or identities, I do it anonymously even under my username on this website. Because I know if I said anything about it or wore MLP shirts in public I will get bullied for it.

I've never been to a bronycon, but I know they have not been immune from problems like that either, sometimes people deal with either verbal or physical abuse. Some of the abuse may consist of use of slurs, religious people sometimes accuse My Little Pony as being some sort of satanic agenda related to LGBT. Besides even if some fans are LGBT, which they are, what business is it of theirs? humans have rights as I would tell them. It sucks that we are being pressured into things that conform to gender expectation. I like rainbows too.

The day this thread was created I was standing next to a colleague and unlocked my phone to check a work email, well wouldn’t you know I was using discord last and was in a pony art channel, pretty sure said colleague caught a glimpse of someone’s Sunset Shimmer fan art 😅

There are also probably dozens of people who have heard me blasting MLP music in my car with the windows down, can’t help it!
