Slipstream 84 July 2, 2012 Share July 2, 2012 I like how stylized the newer ponies look, and I was wondering if anyone who draws them has a "method" through which they do it. Heck, I don't even see them as horses in my mind's eye; the gen1-3 MLPs kind of creeped me out. I prefer the softer, shorter, catlike muzzles and proportions the FiM fillies and colts have. Problem is I'm still learning a bit, and I was hoping for a little advice from anyone who might have any.
RoboGuy9000 103 July 2, 2012 Share July 2, 2012 It's mostly about trying again and again, at first your ponies will look weird depending on your skill but soon they'll grow to look more like ponies. Though if you want to be a great artist you must learn to draw many different things. But considering you asked for ponies, I shall show you some stuff that helped me learn to draw them. http://fav.me/d4n40ck and http://fav.me/d3gzxe9 After getting that pose down try to experiment with different poses, maybe Applejack kicking a tree or something. kirbyboi 588 July 2, 2012 Share July 2, 2012 ^ Cool! I'll use those whenever I'm drawing some. And yes, I prefer the new style! I've heard that MLP is mainly computer animated (kinda obvious). Lauren Faust actually posted some of her early ideas for the ponies (The main difference is the ponies' color and cutie mark): http://mlp.wikia.com/wiki/Lauren_Faust/Gallery
CluelessLlama13 55 July 2, 2012 Share July 2, 2012 Here is a link to the ultimate guide to everything you could ever want to know that has anything to do with arting ponies (side note: it's not purely ponies; there are other tutorials on other things included. However, it is mostly ponies) You can do a good job, but you can't do a job good. "We are as dinosaurs, and we will rule this earth!" -Me, talking in my sleep deviantART??? I draw PONIES!! Ezynell 2,037 July 4, 2012 Share July 4, 2012 If you're trying to draw them as cannon as possible, then tracing and using references is the best way to start out. Additionally, these two are great for references. 1 GAK
