Titan Rising 2,156 July 20, 2012 Share July 20, 2012 3- Your definition of the Bible's moral exhortations is exactly correct. We are all born with the knowledge of good and evil with the predisposition to do evil (sin nature) until otherwise informed. Seeing as good still has a pretty prevalent influence on society, we're raised more or less "good" anyways. By saying we are born with a predisposition to sin, do you mean we are born wanting to sin more than to do good? If so, why would the Bible have ever been accepted by anyone? I don't think it makes sense to say that we are born with a preference to sin but that reading a book or having someone tell us whats right and wrong will change that preference. I actually think slightly the opposite.. That we're all born with a predisposition to do good and that sins are the weaknesses that God wants us to overcome. Unless I'm misunderstanding something that you said
Samurshy 708 July 20, 2012 Share July 20, 2012 Anyone who told you they've never sinned just lied for the first time. I honestly hope that "on my own terms" doesn't mean anything adverse, since there are numerous passages in the Bible which can be difficult to understand or easy to misinterpret. Prime example: 1 Corinthians 11:6 is not about women covering their heads, it's about lying about your marital status. One would never realize that without historical context. Well, I read the bible and tried to understand it to the best of my ability. I do have a friend who is a pastor at a local christian church and if I do not understand something I ask him. 1 [CLICK THE SIG FOR OC] (Signature created by Azura) Shinobu is best girl. Unless I'm misunderstanding something that you said Every person is born with a conscience, but if you have a conscience you must have the opposite too, or else why would you need a conscience. People lie, and they steal, and they know exactly what they are doing before they do it, they have an internal war with themselves before committing such an act. Some people have less empathy or rather they have empathy but they can ignore it better than others, therefore they find it easier to lie, cheat, steal, and kill. But everyone is born with sin, and the ability to know right from wrong. It is whether you choose to do the right thing or the wrong thing that matters. This is the reason you have to teach someone not to lie or steal when they are young. That is what a predisposition to sin is.
Twilight Sky 449 July 20, 2012 Author Share July 20, 2012 Hey whiteshade, contrary to popular belief, just because someone opens up about their religion on the internet does not make them a troll. Samurshy 708 July 20, 2012 Share July 20, 2012 We may have slight differences but man your awesome ^^ When it comes to religion, most everyone is going to have 'slight' differences. But I like to stick up for my fellow christian, I like to think this a wholesome site and that we should be able to post things about religion without fear of trolls, this is not 4chan people. No that is not what I'm saying, what I'm saying is that just as I have the urge to do wrong I have an equal and (I believe) more powerful urge to do right. I think the only time people purposefully do wrong is when they circumvent the more powerful urge to do right with excuses. I think it is the same way for children and for everyone as well... I don't think people necessarily need to be taught to do the right thing... And Blue and Bronynonomous, I read your guys posts too, if I don't respond to you directly it's because I think a single response is enough for all of them. Thanks for the clarification and everything also Blue. Edited July 20, 2012 by Hollowshield
