Wasssupp ever'pony!@ Well I'm entirely sure if this is a good idea or not yet, but I might as well give it a try and see if it gets any attention.

*Read Spoiler for further thread explanation*

First of all I hope everyone trusts me when I say this thread is not to show off, this thread is first and foremost meant to challenge yourself, and while comparing yourself against others can be a fun incentive to play along, it should not be viewed as a competition.

Remember: the amount of sit ups and push ups you can do are also not an accurate portrayal of your abdominal or upper body strength as the amount you can do is reflective of your overall body weight as well.

While I did make this thread for fun, I also hope that maybe it could help some others get in the spirit of physically challenging themselves daily in the process (myself included for that matter), as I know how easy it is to get carried away messing around in video games, online, and just with life in general. If the thread dies it dies, but if people are interested I would like to increase the amount of physical challenges in the future.

So why did I choose push ups and sit ups? Well... Because you can just get out of your chair and find out how many you can do in less than a minute or two.

Here are the rules: (please read before starting)

There are two separate challenges you can attempt. The first is to see how many consecutive push ups/sit ups/etc you can do in a row without stopping, and the second is to see how many you can do in 2 minutes for each. You do not have to do all of each, you may choose which you'd like to do.

Push ups: Arms must be at 90 degree angles, feet together, and your body must be straight. Chest and nose much reach close to the floor and you must return your arms to *at least* a 90 degree angle while coming back up. Keep your frame stiff (don't stick your butt in the air :P)

Crunches: Hands behind your head. Nothing is allowed to keep your feet anchored down. Legs should form around a 45degree angle at the knee. Do not remove your hands from the back of your head, and try your best not to lift your feet from the floor. You do not have to lift your entire body mass up to your legs, but your chin should be lifted above your knees.

Sit ups: Same concept as crunches, but have something or someone holding your feet down. Have your arms crossed and your fingers holding your shoulders

*Further note for crunches/sit ups - it can be hard/painful to do them on a hardwood floor or on tiles. In these cases it would help to do them on a flat pillow or even on your bed

Some people may have more trouble with normal push ups at first so knee ups are also allowed but should be designated as such.

DISCLAIMER: I recommend only challenging yourself to see how many you can do at once a maximum of 4 times a day for only 2 consecutive days in a row. If you keep at it the 3rd day should be used for rest and to let your muscles restore themselves.

My current records:
Consecutive Challenge
Push ups: 40
Crunches: 39
Knee ups: Not attempted
Sit ups: Not attempted

2-Minute Challenge
Push ups: Not attempted
Crunches: Not attempted
Knee ups: Not attempted
Sit ups: Not attempted

Format:

Sit ups:

I think a thread like this will need a lot of initial support, so I'm counting on you guys to just... give it a shot. Of course if you're uncomfortable with doing it for whatever reason that's perfectly fine too.

Wow and I thought I was pretty good lol. Now I have someone to try and beat bwahaha

If you can do at-least 60 pushups and situps in 2 minutes you can pass my military PT (Physical Training) test. It's the one I have to pass twice a year. Oh also you gotta run 1.5mi in less than 12m 15s.

Goodluck!

(:

I can't even do one push-up :( ~

Common I'm sure you can do it ^^, if not try knee ups. Remember all physical challenges are 90% mental too.

That's the one the navy seals take isn't it?? That's what I'm shooting for right now. I'm confident that I can pass the push ups portion, right now I'm really working on the 1.5 miles - that can be a serious mental drain lol

Start with your knees on the ground as far back as you can stand to do them, then move your torso up and down focus on getting 90 degree angles with your elbows. Inhale on the down, and push air out on the "up". Eventually you will build enough strength to do a real one. Also bracing your heels on a wall will help you with this. (Not the knee ups, but the push ups)

I try, but I end up looking like a grunting ball of failure on the ground T-T

Is there an easier way to build arm strength? :P ~

You seem to know a fair amount about this kind of stuff Alaxandir, anything you can think of that I might be able to improve on in my original post in terms of clarity? or concept?

Yeah actually, just about any physical activity will build arm strength. But Calisthenics (moving your body weight) are the FASTEST way to build it. If you are seriously interested look into swimming, rock-climbing, and aerobics. Any of those will naturally build your strength. I can't go against my first recommendation though. Routine dedicated exercise is the best way to go about it :)

Well actually, the sit ups you describe are actually whats called Crunches, the best way to do sit-ups is to find something to wedge your feet underneath or have a friend hold them. Then you should place your arms across your chest with your fingers resting on your clavicle (shoulders). You need to sit up and touch your thigh with any part of your arm, but dont let your arms leave your shoulders.

For the push-ups, you should only rest in the UP position, not the DOWN position. Also, make sure to mention its very important to keep your frame rigid, and focus on keeping your core tight. This is the best way to get the most from your work as it also will strengthen your core and abdominals. No TEEPEE's (putting your but up above your shoulders and making a teepee) Also you should avoid moving your hands around. Once you go up, your up, basically.

You might want to add Chin-ups to the exercise challenge too, as they are a phenomenal way to build upper body strength fast, another great exersize is Dips, (Youtube search if you need examples of these). If you cant do a chinup or dip by yourself, have a friend help you or go to your local gym and use the Assisted Chinup/dip machine. :D

Awesome thanks for all of that. I'll change the first sit up thing to crunches then. I would have added chin ups but I wanted to keep it to stuff a lot of people have access to and could do really quickly at first, just to see if there would be interest in this kind of stuff, and not everyone has a pull up bar. But it is something I would like to add.

I think maybe it would be better to change it to a 2 minute challenge also.

Great thread idea! I'll definitely be taking part in this, looks like fun :3. Tomorrow though, it's far too late and I'm far too tired right now. :)

Cool, I'm glad it's being fairly well received. Part of me thought people would just ignore it and it was gonna die without any posts at all lol.
