PoisonClaw 8,164 July 23, 2012 Share July 23, 2012 I never liked that show. Regardless of what they showed (which 8/10 times could be summed up as someone eating stuff like glass or couch cushions), they always tried to paint the individual as damaged beyond repair and a burden on society. Even when a few of the "addictions" were relatively harmless. On topic though, addiction is actually rather subjective given the circumstances. Yes, something like constantly watching a show about colourful hourses could be seen by some as an addiction but it depends on how far it's taken. Only when it starts to invade and take over about every aspect of their life with no physical positives can it be called an addition. Take the women who sniffed gasoline: not only was she causing irreversible physical damage but she was mentally incapable of stopping whether she wanted to or not. Or the one who ate couch cushion stuffing, she herself knew that it was bad for her but she was unable to stop until she made herself sick. If someone decides to spend $300 on a plushy instead of buying food or would rather watch the show for the twelth time rather than spend time with friends/family or even go to work, then it descends into addiction territory. Basically, anything can be taken too far and become an addiction. Carolina 212 July 26, 2012 Share July 26, 2012 I actually kind of like My Strange Addiction in a train-wreckish kind of way. It's pretty entertaining sometimes (my favorite episodes are the one with the furry and the man who is in a "relationship with his car" - How about an episode of True Life called "I'm a Brony" instead? In general, that show seems a lot more respectful toward its subject matter than Strange Addiction (being an MTV program rather than on TLC - the "Freak Channel")
