Silly Lily 80 August 3, 2012 Share August 3, 2012 (edited) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5LaMXQxPmCA I don't know, even though it's a cartoon it seems kinda painful. And, it reminds me of America's "funniest" home videos where people just get hurt. I used to find it funny but now all I see are cheap laughs and cringe comedy. A little bit is okay I guess but nothing that could actually harm, let alone kill, an actual pony. Maybe it's just used to show the physical durability of these particular ponies? Another example I really dislike is Applejack crushing Pinkie Pie's head with the barn door Edited August 3, 2012 by Silly Lily Fresh Princesses of Bel-Mare: Now this is the story all about how... False Perception 482 August 3, 2012 Share August 3, 2012 Do you know what was also slapstick? Tom And Jerry. We all know how successful those two vermin were. Titan Rising 2,156 August 3, 2012 Share August 3, 2012 (edited) I love that kind of comedy lol. It was really present in Ed Edd n Eddy and that's part of why I loved that show so much. Maybe you have a point about laughing at the person/character's misfortune, and in that way it does make it kind of cringe comedy I suppose, but I wouldn't say I'm necessarily laughing at the person/character's misfortune... For me it's funny because it's so exaggerated but at the same time it's kinda easy to relate to. I guess it comes down to the "laughing at them" or "laughing with them" sort of thing. I think as long as the characters don't receive wounds that permanently injure them it's okay to laugh at those sort of injuries. I mean I've gotten injured a lot and try to look back and laugh at those situations myself Edited August 3, 2012 by Hollowshield
Twi Rubix 726 August 4, 2012 Share August 4, 2012 I like seeing slapstick humor, even though it makes completely no sense. But hey, it's a cartoon. But If its a character I like (Ex. Twilight in the video shown) she is just getting harmed progressivley in the episode, and eventually, I felt sorry for her when she was just filled with bandages. Some of those moments were still funny though, because I guess cartoon character getting hurt are funny?
MrMeep 264 August 4, 2012 Share August 4, 2012 Hearing the word Slapstick just makes me want to watch Mr Bean It's the only time I've successfully seen slapstick without it looking forced.
