Hat988 108 August 26, 2012 Share August 26, 2012 I hear this often, usually to do with meetups; 'Anyone is welcome'. I wonder how you and the community in general would react if some fictitious war criminal became a brony. First of all, I think there would be issues with the definition of brony and whether he is worthy of a term that tries to associate itself with harmony. But my real question is whether he would be accepted as a person and member of the group. One stance could be that he is undeserving of any enjoyment gained from better peoples' (i.e. not war criminals) works. On the other hand, ponies have changed people in remarkable ways. For the chance for this person to change, would you be willing to suffer a possible blow to the brony reputation?
XUNUSEDXXX 3,459 August 26, 2012 Share August 26, 2012 I don't think having one of those war criminals in the bronydom would be a good idea... It would make us look HORRIBLE..

To be completely fair the most technical definition of a brony is someone who watches: My Little Pony, Friendship is Magic. So even if he wasn't exactly nice or associated with harmony he would still be brony as long as he watched that show.
Ink 191 August 26, 2012 Share August 26, 2012 What the guy above me said. If Hitler liked ponies and considered himself a brony, he would be one - you can't just lock people out from a fandom. "You're not allowed to like this TV show because you killed people" sounds weird. 1 I frequently edit my new posts to fix grammatical errors or to reword stuff, so sorry if I make it look like I'm forging my messages to change the meaning of anyone's replies or something. Hat988 108 August 26, 2012 Author Share August 26, 2012 Hang on, I put that bit in there so we wouldn't be arguing over the definition of a brony Would he be accepted?
XUNUSEDXXX 3,459 August 26, 2012 Share August 26, 2012 Meh, I take mine back I guess. A criminal does have a right to watch and become part of whatever fandom he wants, but it would make our fandom look bad...
silvadel 1,393 August 26, 2012 Share August 26, 2012 I think the question is better framed as "Can you be a brony without espousing the ideals of MLP friendship is magic?" In my opinion, maybe on paper but I wouldnt consider someone who was against the very ideals that MLP presents a brony. Then again I cant see how someone could watch and enjoy all of this without at least having some longing for belonging. Silvadel, the Pegasus of Insight. Gone for good 1,593 August 26, 2012 Share August 26, 2012 I don't think having one of those war criminals in the bronydom would be a good idea... It would make us look HORRIBLE.. I dunno, it would certainly stray us away from the "oh my gosh you guys are so gay and girly wtf" or autistic image that we have right now. Just editing my signature to say that my behavior on here was cringe. I don't regret the friends i made but man i was cringe here
Guest August 27, 2012 Share August 27, 2012 Brony, noun, someone who watches My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. Yeah, I have no right to tell them they can't be, so I'd have to accept them even if I didn't want to.
I used to be a stranger 7,993 August 27, 2012 Share August 27, 2012 (edited) "Brony" is a disction for our hobby interest. It does not hold the weight (nor should it) of political, religious or legal distinctions. I am a brony, but it is far more important to myself and everyone I know that I am called a Christian, or a Canadian (depending upon the situation). For a direct underscoring of that, notice how my religion and nationality are properly capitalized, whereas my hobby interest is properly not capitalized. Dusty Soul 2,611 August 27, 2012 Share August 27, 2012 Bronydom is not a discriminatory term. Bronies are supposed to accept everyone. If a criminal watches the show, its fine by me...
