Xero1 124 October 11, 2012 Share October 11, 2012 (edited) All art will be posted on post 1. So Here is my first traditionally drawn pony (rather than vector) And since I hadn't done Apple jack yet. this one features her. Though I got lazy and only did a sketch of the bust, I'll mess with lower body pony proportions when i'm a bit more confident. Tools used: .05mm mechanical pencil Staedtler pigment liner (pen of various tip sizes) Copic markers Staedtler Watercolor pencils and White charcoal Twilight sketch critique wanted- I need some help identifying areas where I may have gotten pony porportions that are less than believable or improply positioned limbs and such. Okay okay so i've redrawn the hind legs a dozen times and this is as good as they are getting right now i'm afraid. I'll have to study the limitations of actual horse legs a bit to understand what I should be able to make look believable in future pictures. Motion Spark 7,807 October 11, 2012 Share October 11, 2012 this is amazing!! but at the same time, I don't want to make you feel bad, but I didn't like it, everything seems off. let me start. Why do I think that it's amazing? becuase you obviously have some skills, the curves, the shapes, everything seems nice (separately), and the coloring and shading is marvelous, I liked the concept of it. But why is not good? The drawing: the face, mainly seems like it was skewed to the left, the hat is not equal on both sides and it doesn't look like it's on AJ's head, it's not in in the center of hear head. But, the main problem here is the snout IMO, it's weird. The coloring and shading: The coloring is perfect, again, separately. On this drawing seems off. The hair, the hat and the body are perfect. The shading you put around the snout makes her look like granny smith actually, perhaps you wanted to give her a 3D look, but it didn't turn out right. The shading and coloring of the pony tail is cool, but the black shading on the center of the ponytail makes it looks like a hollow object, it still looks like hear though. Everything else seems fine. I looked like I was whining and complaining, and bashing at your drawing. But I wasn't, I said all that stuff because I know that you can do better than this 1 My OC's: Motion Spark || Beat Spark || Rosebelle Sorry, I don't take REQUESTS! But I wasn't, I said all that stuff because I know that you can do better than this Many of these are issues I encountered trying to give some dimensionality to the a drawing while using only the very flat and barely shaded refrences i can get from the show, especially the snout. I do not draw like lauren faust at all. trying to draw her head mostly dead on with a slight tilt caused both the issues with snout and hat, I over corrected the position of the hat. The snout seems almost too dimensional I guess. I dunno exactly what went wrong there. I've never done this kind of illustration before so i knew I'd make lots of mistakes I'm greatful for you're critique and well I can only get better with practice. 2 Check out my Art threads everypony http://mlpforums.com...tor-art-thread/ and http://mlpforums.com/topic/35635-01s-traditional-art/#entry847552 I love getting critiques and such. Motion Spark 7,807 October 11, 2012 Share October 11, 2012 @@Xero1, you don't need to draw like Lauren Faust to do ponies, many draw ponies in a obviously not MLP style, but they do it flawless. I personally prefer the original style of the show, because I love it so much. But you said it, only practice makes you better! I hope to see more of your pony art in a future My OC's: Motion Spark || Beat Spark || Rosebelle Sorry, I don't take REQUESTS!
Felix 1,363 October 11, 2012 Share October 11, 2012 (edited) I have some agreement to Motion Spark there, but in my own personal opinion the style of it is rather interesting. I love the burst of color that the hair has and you obviously have skill in shading or using particular shapes that add some slight 3 Dimension like features. It's well done. Xero1 124 October 12, 2012 Author Share October 12, 2012 NEW ART ADDED! I need some help with this twilight picture so before I ink and color it i'd like some critique about porportions and positioning. please ignore the numbers and letters. they are color combinations and line widths for inking, notes just for me basically. SrFrog 927 October 12, 2012 Share October 12, 2012 Proportionally it's all there but the angles that the rear legs take, seem just a bit off. The tail also seems flat compared to the rest of the picture. 1 "Never give no manipulative bitch the benefit of the doubt" - Compa's grandpa... Xero1 124 October 13, 2012 Author Share October 13, 2012 (edited) NEW ART ADDED Twilight in colour has now been posted. Please comment and critique still lots of work to do before I can get a solid style in which to draw ponies, every comment helps. Proportionally it's all there but the angles that the rear legs take, seem just a bit off. The tail also seems flat compared to the rest of the picture. I did my best to apply your critique thanks for the help.
