Sipher 14 October 24, 2012 Share October 24, 2012 (edited) Hey everypony! I know I'm new and I didn't join just to ask for help, but it is a somewhat urgent matter. I was wondering if anypony knows where I can come across Vinyl-Resin like what Hasbro uses to cast their MLP:FiM brushables. I plan on making some custom pony brushables (using my own sculpt of course) utilizing a blank base and adding things to it. If anypony knows where I can find some Vinyl-Resin please let me know! P.s. I don't really want to use vinylester or polyester-resin, but I will if I must... A sculpt of my base with a quick Rainbow Dash hair that I made in around fifteen minutes.... So there's that for anypony who is interested. Edited October 24, 2012 by Sipher
SweetJeans88 408 November 6, 2012 Share November 6, 2012 dunno about the resin... plaster may work if youre just gonna have em on display. for a CHEAP alternative you can mix sheetrock powder pretty thin and do the same thing. for the mold i would suggest, tho it may be complicated.... you might have to make a 2 part thing. that hair is gonna get caught in the mold and break off when you try to pull it out. we used this method in sculpture class: rub the piece down with vaseline. be generous, you really dont want this next part to stick. get some of that clear silicone caulk, and a caulk gun. (have some rubbing alcohol handy. if you dip your fingers in rubbing alcohol, the silcone wont stick to you so badly) encase your piece in a thick layer of silicone caulk, and be mindful of any air bubbles. also, this stuff reeks. do it outside xD wait a day or two for it to dry, (if you need 2 pices, do a half a side at a time....) and pop your piece out. you might have to gently cut it out if youre doing it in 2 pieces. to keep the mold upright so you can fill it with liquid..whatever... you can fill a bowl with sand and set the mold in it. if its a 2 part thing...set your mold in a bowl of a thicker version of the plaster stuff, so youre making a mold of the outside of your.. mold O.o; i hope you understand... you need the outer plaster to hold the silicone casing together, so you can fill IT with the resin/plaster and still keep it in one piece. otherwise youll end up with just two plaster halves and no way to join them. maybe someone else has a better way to explain or do that part? good luck!
