Rainbow Dash Pony Disaster

 

The 2d platformer game recently released a playable demo (if you have adobe air) that can be found right about here.

 

But anyway, if you do not have a computer you can play on right now, or if you are considering using the small 50.5 MB space that it takes up, here is a review for you guys to chew on before you get playing.

 

The game starts in a tutorial. Your controls are the worst part of the game right now.

You can open your quests with the F1 key,

exit out of them with Q,

Jump by pressing W once,

Fly up by double tapping W,

move left and right with A and D,

Run/ fly faster by holding down Shift while moving,

Attack enemies with:

[Jump attack with Jump and then SPACEBAR]

[Run Towards the enemy and press SPACEBAR]

[fly up and tap CTRL, then tap SPACEBAR]

Use Items with SPACEBAR

The movement and animation is slightly cheesy. rainbow dash falls downwards very slowly. her turning is slightly delayed with the time you press the button on the keyboard so it is slightly hard to control RD. all in all a pretty good movement though. I definitely could not do any better.

 

The goal of the game? Well rainbow dash finds some weird looking globs in her path, and was almost hurt by them! So who's fault is it? Apparently that of a corporation called "Pony Industries" The enemies are green, blue, and red globs that were quite honestly hard to beat the first time. After that you just do what the quests tell you to from killin globs, to eating apples.

 

vector graphics: The quality of art in this game is something to behold. Pretty accurate to the show in fact. so here is a screenshot for you guys. that you will most likely find at the bottom of this topic.

 

So overall its just another Platform game, except, well, 20% cooler. The vectors are definitely a plus, as well as just the fact that it's a pony game. And again, this is a demo, so there will be more to come from the developers hopefully. An overall rating at a 7/10 because of the art, yet no originality. Also some strange controls. Tis' another platform game, what else is there to say.

 

 

 

Actually, I now realize that there is some originality to it. YOU CAN FRIKIN FLY. as normal as it sounds, its actually a very fun element in this game. You also have a save file format. You save the game wherever the heck you want. no need to get to the end of the level before you can go to dinner, and the save file takes up practically no space on your computer.
