(WITH SPOILERS) Timeline for the events on the year, 1000 years ago

I just had this idea come up right as I finished seeing the preview of the first episode of Season 3.

 

So, as the title says, I'm a little bothered with the timeline of the events that happend on the year I mentioned. So far we have Luna transforming into Nightmare Moon, *START OF SPOILER* King Sombra taking control of the Crystal Empire *END OF SPOILER*, and the end of Discord's reign (not so sure on this one, temporally speaking), ALL in the same year that was 1000 years ago.

 

Now, my bet is that the Crystal Empire probably disappeared AFTER Celestia and Luna defeated Discord, as King Sombra and the CE would have probably been affected by Discord's reign, which wasn't shown nor hinted in the preview. And THEN Luna transformed into Nightmare Moon, as more or less it has to be the last of this events. Celestia and Luna defeated together both Sombra AND Discord, so it wouldn't make sense that Luna/Nightmare Moon had been banished before that.

 

What are your thoughts on this theory?

I always took it as roughly 1000 years ago, give or take a few decades or centuries. In my headcanon, it went something like

 

1800+ years ago: Equestria established by the three tribes

 

1500+ years ago: Discord appears and is later struck down by Celestia and Luna

 

1060~ years ago: King Sombra takes power in the Crystal Empire, and within a couple years or decades is struck down by Celestia and Luna

 

1000 years ago: Luna goes crazy and turns into Nightmare Moon, and within the year is struck down by Celestia.

 

Of course, the exact timeline of everything pre-Sombra is up for debate, but we also don't know how long before Nightmare Moon that the two sisters ruled or were otherwise present in Equestria.

3. Discord is overthrown.

4. Peace.

5. King Sombra is overthrown.

6. Nightmare Moon is banished to, ironically enough, her own moon.

 

There is, however, one problem. The Crystal Ponies' history weren't written down in books and so it's hard to make a case on when Sombra conquered their empire and was overthrown - but we can rule out Luna going apeshit and transforming into NMM before any of that. Is the Crystal Empire supposed to be a part of Equestria? Did they somehow managed to start their own regime without the royal sisters' knowledge? We might see some of that in the Luna-Celestia background episode that's slated for this season, near the end most likely.

We have no idea either of the fact how long Luna and Celestia...well..."developed", because we can't really tell how much it passed that they could be powerful enough to overthrow Discord, even with the help of the Elements of Harmony. Celestia mentioned that 1000 years ago, King Sombra had corrupted the Crystal empire, but we know that NMM was trapped for EXACTLY 1000 years.

As we also don't know when Celestia and Luna were born. I have that slight feeling that you might be more right than what I have probably done, more importantly, because if everything had happened in the same year, then the royal sisters would have been tired as hell. They might have just created the Elements of Harmony. If you watched the 8 minute clip, you'd see that Sombra wasn't defeated with them at all - I wonder why? Was he not as formidable as Discord? But then again, how did one guy manage to take over an entire empire? Only through Celestia and Luna's divine intervention was he put to an end but not before placing a curse upon an entire kindgom - I'd say that sort of stuff is the work of a very powerful being. He's no alicorn, but this guy's heart was "as black as the night" said by Celestia herself. Doesn't that require the Elements of Harmony?

 

Or, the Elements might have already existed - something of a guardian angel, brought forth from the beginning of time, to serve as guides throughout Celestia's rule. Reminds me of the Blue Orb and Red Orb from Pokemon where they effectively can calm down (and even control) Groudon and Kyogre, bringing some sort of peace to calm the storm, as it were. Is it possible to become an Alicorn after several attempts of using the elements? Oh, but wait, Faust said so herself that Alicorns were born and there is probably no "evolution" process to it. We need to go back deeper than just the early periods of Equestrian history - we'll need to know how the hell Celestia and Luna were actually born.

Though, this brings up yet another response from me: I can't help but think that Sombra inflicted a curse on Luna to become Nightmare Moon, thus causing her to go apeshit with jealousy and envy. If the above were to be true, that is - he not only managed to curse an entire kingdom, but this guy, as I've said before, seems to be a master manipulator and was easily able to ensnare a curse upon the Empire regardless of his banishment. Insurance seems likely.

When you said you were a lot in Show Discussion, you weren't lying Regardless...hmmm...

 

They might have already used the EoH, because the ray they used was still very multicolored, which brings to believe something else, however, it might be possible that the EoH COULD have existed from before....but we're forgetting something.

 

Now, Equestria was founded by the the three tribes...but this is just EQUESTRIA. We have NO idea how exactly the world is called...or was created. Celestia and Luna MUST have been born AFTER the three tribes founded Equestria. Yes, they are alicorns powerful enough to move the sun and moon, but I think that they would have helped with the foundation if they were already there. Unless this is sort of like God from the Bible that let the people he created shape the world according to how THEY wished instead of having to with it, which I doubt a lot as I think Celestia and Luna are alicorns, not godesses.

 

So one of the long standing questions of bronydom stands strong...who are the parents of Luna and Celestia?

 

Also, on the fact of Sombra having to do with Luna's corruption could be a good theory on why Luna was so insistent on going with Twilight, and why she was so serious when looking at her.

I think the Elements were founded after the Windigos were defeated, in that pink flash of light. The Crystal Empire was founded by pony priglims and were in good terms with Equestria. When Sombra conquered them, Celestia and Luna saved them, with the help of everypony noble, and dicovered The Elements.

For the next few centuries, there was peace, then Discord overthrew Celestia and Luna. They defeated him with The Elements of Harmony. Voila. Peace, prosperity, and love for all ponykind.

Once again, for the next few centuries, there was peace. However, Luna begun to get jealous. The Elements sensed her growing evil character, and were adapted to have a hostile attitude against here, which is why instead of purifying her, they banished her. After that they were perfected again, but their essence escaped from the jewels. They could work, but there would be no full harmony. After one thousand years...the best show ever appeared.

I also have another theory: Somra secretly split his character and possesed Luna, causing her to transform into Nightmare Moon.

Huh...I like all that theory except the part of Celestia being born out of an interrace marriage...I don't think it would work. I don't it CAN work that way. The rest is however quite an interesting idea...I like it.

Yeah, but I can't really explain why alicorns were born. Maybe royal people grew wings when they were proven to be noble and worthy. So there are no real alicorns...since explaining form that alicorn Twilight. Maybe at the end of the series, her heart becomes fuly pure, and she grows wings and stops the final villain.

As far as I know that was a picture that is more considered a derp by the creators than something that will actually happen. If that were to ACTUALLY happen......it would ironically make the "alicorn" theories be much, much easier (and would also destroy a lot of headcanons too ).
