Fanfic help - canon-ness (?)

simple question, i started this thing about a year ago now, before hearts and hooves day even.  

 

The concept is a Mare-Day-Faire.  The tradition being that mares would ask a stallion of their choice to the faire with them.  i wanted it to be in the early spring, or perhaps late fall, but im unsure whether it conflicts with the summer sun celebration, or the lunar festival.  it seems odd to me to have so many holidays so close together but these ponies celebrate everything i guess.

 

Would the Summer Sun Celebration be more like a state fair thing? and the Mare-Day-Faire a county fair? or should i change it completely?  i want to fit in logically in ponyville.  help is loved <3

Well, the Summer Sun Celebration seems almost religious in nature (given that it completely centers around Celestia). It does seem to have the "party and stay up all night" leading up to it, but the celebration itself seems rather formal.

Also since it celebrates the longest day of the year, it would be somewhere around June 20th, so spring should be fine.

 

A spring celebration does seem fitting, maybe add morris-dancing and maypoles and whatnot.

 

You could even have a corresponding harvest festival in fall, when the stallions have to ask out the mares.

 only took me uhm.. a month to get back to this haha. xD  thanks for the reply though, i am still working on it.  yeah i wanted the maypole, coming of age/young love kinda mess in it, so i thought spring would be better suited.

 

is "mare-day faire" adequate or could i think of something better you think?

 

 

also, how far advanced is pony technology? theres ferris wheels in the background of the Summer sun Celebration, but would they call them Ferris wheels?  i dubbed it an upright carousel or something convoluted like that for now,

but those airship apples threw me for a loop...

Well, the show is pretty flexible on that: Vinyl uses turntables and speakers after all. As long as you clarify its powered by magic or maybe steam, pretty much everything goes (avoid modern materials like plastic though).

 

"Mare-day faire" sounds good to me: feels canon.

 

Concerning the wheel: Ferris was the name of the guy who built the first in American, so maybe use another term (Big Wheel, Gondola Wheel or Kissing Wheel, since you can't be seen from the ground when you're at the top )
