Faceless 101 January 18, 2013 Share January 18, 2013 I wouldn't say there is a rule. It's just when you know the show has run out of ideas to make it interesting. However, most TV developers make mistakes. At the point of running out of ideas, they SHOULD come up with a good story to conclude all unanswered questions and conclude the character's problems. And here is where the mistakes come in: Mistakes: 1) Let's kill everyone! (E.g. Lost, Merlin, Being Human (UK version), Primeval). 2) Make a story line which was bigger than the last one! (E.g. Doctor Who, True Blood, Bones) 3) Let's carry on FOREEEEVERRR!!! (THe Simpsons, The Office, Bones, this is a massive list). 1 We all go a little mad sometimes... Strangers think I am quiet. Friends think I am outgoing. Best friends KNOW I am insane! Jessper 735 January 18, 2013 Share January 18, 2013 To simplify it, when it's good and it stays good along the way - as long as is humanly possible. When you stop liking it, you can stop watching, when you like it, you'll be happy. Of course there are shows where it doesn't work when you are waiting for some big conclusion, tho there are shows that can go on forever, as they keep explaining the "secrets" along the way or have no secrets at all. And I don't really like short things, as there's not time to really start loving the characters. Not saying there aren't good miniseries tho. Then again, I don't really watch all that many series, but those I do should go on forever until the whole cast dies of old age.
Betez 1,735 January 18, 2013 Share January 18, 2013 I kind of like mini series's, but not that often. To me, even though they were just 20-minute shows, seasons 1 and 2 of mlp are considered long (By me, anyway.) Seasons of Lost, which have around 25 episodes, each around 45 minutes, are considered long. I'd say less than 15 is short, and 15-20 are medium. Harmonic Revelations 8,837 January 18, 2013 Share January 18, 2013 I consider anything less than fifteen minutes per episode and less than twenty episodes per season short, and anything less than 10 episodes a miniseries.
