~Master~ Button Mash 2,307 January 21, 2013 Share January 21, 2013 I found out this morning that there was going to be no Midwestria this year. It got me thinking of the state of the brony community in the American Midwest, and more specifically, my hometown of Chicago. Chicago is the third largest city in the United States, and I'm sure a similar percentage of the population are bronies compared to New York and LA. Both of those cities have very large conventions, Bronycon and EQLA respectively. With that said, why does Chicago have such a struggle with large-scale cons? We are just as much a world class city as NY and LA, but we can't seem to sustain a brony con. What gives? And what can we do about it? Lady Leopardess 393 January 22, 2013 Share January 22, 2013 (edited) Didn't know that T_TChicago has Anime Central which is in the top 5 most attended US anime cons. So I don't think it's that Chicago has trouble with large cons.It could have more to do with the kind of people and funds ,time and such needed to plan such an event.I heard there were a ton of pony cosplayers at Anime Central last year. I wouldn't be surprised if there were some pony related panels too. I was thinking of doing a gala cosplay for the ball they'll be holding...Well I hope it's still popular enough show that Midwestria does come back for 2014. XxSAINExX 29 January 22, 2013 Share January 22, 2013 I agree wholeheartedly with your statement. Chicago just seems to be left out of a lot of things that I like. I'm just going to go to bronycon this year (and otakon) and spend all of my money transporting from Illinois to Maryland. If there's that much of a pony presence I guess it might be worth a check look-see. Still, though, the pony community is big enough that it should be able to hold it's own convention in Chicago. I mean, given the size of the fandom, and the size and relatively central location of Chicago, and given the size of Bronycon and EQLA, I could easily see Chicago bronies putting something together that could fill the Donald E. Stephen's convention center with a con wholly devoted to ponies. *dreamy sigh* Edited January 22, 2013 by AtomicBassCannon Follow me on Tumblr! http://stratosthestallion.tumblr.com

It could have been the location , as it's out in the 'burbs of Chicago but I know my friend was able to get a room in the hotel , the night of the con so..... I went to Midwestria and I agree it wasn't that packed. That could also be because it felt like it wasn't as promoted as bronycon, everfree, or Equestria LA were but I'm surprised there has so far only been one brony convention in the Chicago area.
