poniesforfun 716 January 29, 2013 Share January 29, 2013 So anyone wonder why the ponies have little to no information about dragons yet the unicorn magic academy examiners uses dragon eggs as an entrance exam? How come Spike is the only dragon that lives with ponies anyway? I was kind of wondering this since Spike might get a spotlight on the last episodes of season 3? duidamasterXD 9,627 January 29, 2013 Share January 29, 2013 I've heard somewhere that the test at Celestia's School was designed not to be passable, not sure if it's true, but I remember hearing it somewhere. Ponies and Dragons seem pretty fundamentally different from what we've seen in episodes like Dragon Quest, so I'm not especially surprised that they don't interact often. Spike is the exception because he's been raised by Twilight for his entire life and is far more used to Pony Morality than Dragon Morality. Because the test wasn't supposed to be passable, Spike's egg might have been the only one they had. I think Celestia knows plenty about dragons, but the general population doesn't due to having no time to ever interact with them. I've read some very interesting fanon explanations of Spike's origins, and while I don't expect to get any insight in the next few episodes since they've given Spike plenty of focus recently, I'd love to find out some more about his past in future seasons.
poniesforfun 716 January 29, 2013 Author Share January 29, 2013 (edited) The test wasn't passable I missed that one. So that would mean Spike could be sort of a mystery and a unique character of his own kind. Wow I just had a sudden thought that Spike could actually get a season finale as a "link" between ponies and dragons. After all he was born from that Rainboom of Friendship that awakened the other ponies cutie marks. So like a friendship bond between some kingdom of dragons with Canterlot could be a possible episode. And maybe he was imbued with some of Twilight Sparkle's magical powers (which is also quite a mystery on it's own and possesses some kind of vast property) Edited January 29, 2013 by poniesforfun

But overall it was Twilights magic that gave birth to Spike. As for the test, I feel the school just gave that test out randomly to anypony. There might be other kinds of test at the school. I used to be a stranger 7,993 January 29, 2013 Share January 29, 2013 Spike is in the order of teenager-years old and still described as a baby dragon. This also works in conjunction to the fact that Dragons can sleep for several decades or more, to suggest that dragons are extremely long-lived creatures, perhaps in the order of millenniums. To this end, it is highly probable that the rate of a dragon's growth (if only so-so interfered by greed) is remarkably slow. That, or the fact that Spike is growing up with and by Ponies, his development is being heavily altered due to their caring and sharing mannerisms. Tall_But_Short_37 233 January 29, 2013 Share January 29, 2013 My head canon is that the test was designed to not be passable, as said above, in order to test not the applicants magic ability, but how they react to failure. Any unicorn can learn magic (that we know of), but only the most tenacious and clever deserve to be taught at Celestia's school. Besides the whole magic Spike grow huge and glowy eyes jazz, I think Celestia would've still be surprised at Twilight had she only managed to hatch Spike. Scootalove 10,689 January 29, 2013 Share January 29, 2013 I guess it was because, Spike is a very gentle dragon. I don't think the dragons Spike was hanging out with, would be very peaceful. Credit: Moony © Forum FAQ Forum Rules
