First attempt at OC

Hey guys, I thought I'd share this with you guys in hopes of some feedback maybe even some advice or guidance on how to better approach drawing Ponies.

I used a blank template for my first attempt, drawing in my Mask, hair, tail and cutie mark!

 

A problem I had trying to draw my own is that the body kept ending up looking like a round balloon!

I very much like it. I like the color of the coat and the idea of the mask on the pony as his attire. Honestly thats something ive never really seen on an OC due to the fact everypony wants to show thier faces. the question i want to know, is why this OC is whering a "happy" mask over his face? Quite intresting. I would say the tail looks just a bit thin, most Ocs just have a bulked up tail at the point of contact with the rear, then gradually gets bigger. But im betting thats your own personal preference. I also really like the mane, it looks it looks scruffy, yet compliments the enitre OC. As for drawing pony bodies, i would say keep practicing the proportions of the body, the adjust everything else to it it. I personally start with the head, then work my way around to the rest of the character. Practice is all it takes. Artwise its fine. I'm all about the back story. Why the mask?

I could see the drama if an accident or fire required him to wear a mask. But there are a million other reasons.

 

How about tossing off a paragraph or two with a nutshell character description?

The story behind him is that he is a bit of a rough pony, he is also under developed in areas, thus the limited hair in the mane and tail.

 

The mask actually hides the fact that he is a unicorn, however his horn is more of a stub, this being the main area where he has had issues developing.

 

The whole point of the mask is that it hides the embarrassment he would get from exposing the stubby horn to the world!

 

Still need to work on more lore about him if I'm honest though!
