Private Eye 25 February 12, 2013 Share February 12, 2013 I'm not sure if I'm in the wrong forum for this but I would like some help pricing my pony art? I was thinking of 5$ for a full body but I don't know if its too expensive ;o; I'll put like 3 images under spoiler and then a bunch of links to show my style/art skills. I'll throw in links to sketches so you can see my art skills (even without outlining you can see how my anatomy and style is) http://frail-ice.deviantart.com/art/Adopt-1-352704705 http://frail-ice.deviantart.com/art/Ponysona-352539714 http://frail-ice.deviantart.com/art/Emerald-Glow-348576108 http://frail-ice.deviantart.com/art/Headless-Horse-348922214 http://frail-ice.deviantart.com/art/Licorice-Journal-Skin-352298232 http://frail-ice.deviantart.com/art/Aria-Sunsong-347656016 http://frail-ice.deviantart.com/art/Dynamite-347538927 Right now I'm working on a bunch of commissions so I probably will be able to show more examples later though. Sorry for so many links ioadaw Thank you for any feedback! My character Private Eye

Sorry for so many links ioadaw Thank you for any feedback! Well I don't actually know... I personally charge only $2 for digital paints but maybe I'm just too nice, I've considered bumping up mine. http://joshuawickett.deviantart.com/ Hmmm well are they vectored? I usually see stuff around 3-5 for vectors but I saw one person charging $20 which was outrageous so I'm sure $5 isn't too shabby.
Bohtty 1,775 February 13, 2013 Share February 13, 2013 Id say 2-5$ is a reasonable price range. It all depends on how much time it takes for you to make one of your drawings. I'd think that most would be in the 3$ range since they have no background and the shading is relatively simple. I'd probably pay 6-7$ for the first image though, it's very well done. So maybe like 2 - 3$ for just the ponies themselves, 4-5$ for the pony+other things. Legit signature made by Shift.

Like just an relined/edited into another pony from a screenshot? Because I don't trace for my stuff. I draw it myself. Also you are FAR too nice, your art is worth much more! I used the same drawing process for that like pretty much all of my other drawings. The only thing different about it is the fact is that its done in my style rather then MLP style compared to the other two images shown (that isn't linked). If you vectored then you'd know if it was vectored. Vector art is a type of drawing that is lossless and can be scaled infinitely because the drawing is decided mathematically. It's not tracing. It's well done because the design is better than the other ones. There is more to art than just the style it's done in. 1 Legit signature made by Shift. Vectoring is a type of art involving a no-pixel type data, what softare did you use to do this? or is it a vexel art? And thank you! I guess I'll have to change my pricing :/

Oh, thank you. you know how confusing it is for me, most of the time I see "vector" drawings its things traced from the show Dx Because that is the character's design? I don't think just because the design is different should make the price THAT much different? Unless if you mean something else by design? I will assume its just a vexel though, because I just use the pen functions in SAI to do everything. How would you make vector art exactly, or what programs can be considered vector programs? I never understand all these vector and vexel things Dx Question though: Whether or not I used vexels or vector lines and stuff, if its saved in png its pretty much all just one layer anyways and wouldn't it still resize like it was a vexel anyways if saved as png? If this is the case, how would you make it so it can be resized like a vector? Would you use a special file type like the bitmap thing? Would my art be worth more if I started using vectors instead of vexels? Edited February 13, 2013 by Private Eye My character Private Eye

If you are using sai, it isn't TRUE vector, I do believe I'd consider that a vexel, it's just a really good rasterizer that's all. A vector program would be inkscape or adobe illustrator. If it were a vector you could re-size THE ORIGINAL file IN the program indefinitely, then export it at that quality as a PNG or some form of lossless file. Is this helpful? I'll have to look into those. However I was messing with the layer things and there is a linework layer thing in sai. I drew two circles, one on the linework layer and one on the normal layer. I resized it a couple times and noticed that no matter what I did it didn't get blurry, but the normal thing did. Perhaps I can create vectors in SAI? (The one on the left is the linework layer, and this is what happened after I made it like 500% bigger) http://gyazo.com/2643d1fc20e6c360ba11c3cbb1d9b1cd Just thought you might find this interesting? Sai has a "vector" layer, but I don't think it's true vector, I have sai let me check... Yes sai can create true vectors; it's a bit clunky but it does work. You have to do the resize in SAI then export it at the size you want it.

The character design is how the character is position on the page, the pose, how the white space is handled, the colors used, the proportions, the line quality, the form, etc. All of which are well done on that drawing. The colors form a nice unison, the white space is balanced, the proportions have a very pleasing form to them. for more information about design google "the principles of design" Save images for the web in png almost always. It is only scaleable infinitely if its vector and saved in a vector format. SVG files can scale infinitely I wouldn't pay more or less if you used vectors or vexels. All that matters is the finish product. Legit signature made by Shift.

I mainly was just asking them because they questioned if it was vector xD Sai has a "vector" layer, but I don't think it's true vector, I have sai let me check... In any case, thanks both of you for your feedback! More examples of finished drawings.
